“2nd stay here, update from my review from June 2007”

Hilton Washington

4 of 5 stars
Washington DC, District of Columbia
Aug 16, 2007

I submitted a review for this hotel in June after a pleasant stay. I just returned from staying at this hotel again August 11 to 14. In general my comments from my previous review are still true. This time I was placed in a room that had a door connecting to another guestroom. The noise coming in from the next room was intolerable, it sounded like their 3 children were in my room, there was no insulation at all! I asked the front desk to move me to a different room, they very happily did so and offered their apologies. My new room was right next to the icemachine so I expected more noise. I was pleasantly surprised that the new room was very quiet even with the adjacent ice machine. I was able to sleep well and the only noise that I heard was a siren from the street outside. The room itself was comfortable and, just like in my last review, had a great view of the City. There are numerous outlets. The shower gets very hot and high pressure, so yes as other reviewers note its gets steamy - but thats a small price to pay for a refreshing shower. Too often I have stayed in hotels that are "low flow" - this place is a fire hose! The room's coffee maker did not seem to work properly, but take out coffee is available in the restaurant in the lobby. Parking remains $23/day. A cocktail from the lobby bar was $9.35, pretty steep. But I don't mind the "nickle and diming" on the extras if it means the room rates are kept low - I was paying $86/night this time. Again, there are some things that have slipped, the elevators are a little quirky, the bathrooms a little small, but for these prices it remains "the best deal in town" as I wrote with review in June.

“Reasonable hotel for the price”

My family of four stayed at the hotel for two nights in August. I booked the hotel via Hilton website with corporate code. The hotel placed us on the 9th floor ( corporate) facing the back of the hotel (pool). The room is small but it is clean. It was built back in 1965 and room size is standard in those days. The swimming pool were great for kids because the temperature was around 100F when we were there. Food at the restaurant is not cheap as you expected from this type of business hotel. I think if you get the room cheap via hotwire you may get room on the lower floor and those are old and noisy but at 9th floor everything looks good...we were lucky.....We managed to walk to Dupont Circle for food and there are plenty of good food places in this area of town.

We thought this was a really nice hotel. The rooms and beds were very comfortable. It was very clean and the staff was nice and friendly. We didn't eat there so can't comment on the restaurants but there were several nice places within walking distance.

“Disappointed”

My wife and daughter traveled with me so I decided to book a four star hotel. I was very disappointed! Our first room smelled like a wet babies diaper and the second one smelled like it had been smoked in, especially the bathroom. The bathroom was very small and had hair in the tub. The hallways where very narrow and both where extremely dated. While I was getting a new room, another guest was getting a second room because her bathroom was dirty!

“Better than anticipated”

Hilton Washington

Aug 10, 2007

Arrived at the Hilton for a conference with very limited expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Rooms very comfortable and sound proofing is good. Bedding seemed particularly luxurious. The gym is one of the best hotel gyms I've seen: big and lots of natural light.
At the conference, the often dreary lunch was more than edible.
