Washington Marriott

Connecticut

Celebrated the 4th in DC. The stay was Ok, staff seemed overwhelmed due to the holiday and amount of guess. Was not assisted with my luggage. Other folks did receive assistance to their room. Room was nice (all marriotts rooms are nice). Allowed to have 4 guest to a (1 king bed only) room. Oh we slept very cozy. No rollaway bed offered. Did ask for a double but hotel did not have any db rooms when I arrived. When booking directly with Marriott, asked for early check in and extra towels, did not get either. Had to call service to ask for towels. I also asked if anyone had cancel (during my stay) a reservation to get a db room, was told would call back, never receive a call during my stay. After returning home, I realize I should have received a $25 gas card, did not receive one. Staff were a bit rushing at check out time. Pool staff (night shift) were WONDERFUL.. I did call the hotel and spoke with John (manager) who was wonderful and agreed to mail the gas card. Let's see if I recieve the card. I do hope non-Marriott Rewards member did not get treated worst than my family.

“Enjoyed my stay here!”

After a lot of searching, this hotel was the most reasonably priced one I found in the May peak convention season. I arrived Dulles around 2pm and did not get to the hotel at 4pm, so was grateful for the free lemonade at reception. I also bought a couple of drinks at the Starbucks shop in reception, which is handy.

My room has a king sized bed and although it was not a large room, it was perfectly adequate for me. It had a 32" flat screen television which is always nice to wake up to. There was a minibar with sensors which I did not open, but there is an ice machine and a drinks machine on every corridor, and an ice bucket in the room.

The bed was incredibly comfortable and the airconditioner was relatively quiet. I ordered room service breakfast once but was not impressed with the dry bagel and congealing scrambled eggs, especially as my bill was $20 in the end. After I was joined by a friend we ended up having the buffet breakfast every morning, which was good with a decent selection of the healthy and the calorie laden.

There's a walgreen virtually next door and a Starbucks further down. I discovered a restaurant/food court called Good Thyme which serves a very decent variety of buffet food by weight - it is down M street (walk out of the hotel, turn left at Walgreen, pass Starbucks, cross the road and look out for it on the right) The only downside is that it closes at 4pm.

This hotel is not particularly near any metro stations - DuPont circle and Foggy Bottom are a brisk 12 minute walk away. It is walking distance from Georgetown with its great shops. I wasn't impressed with the $9.99 charge for internet access, especially as it stopped working after a couple of hours.

Would I stay here again? If the price is right, although I may look for a hotel that's closer to the metro. I gave it 4 stars because there is no 3 and a half star option, and 3 stars seemed a bit mean..

“Not what I expected”

Washington Marriott

3 of 5 stars
Roanoke, VA
May 6, 2008

Marriott is generally assumed to be a step above the rest but I was somewhat disappointed with the Washington Marriott. While the room was clean and the bedding extremely comfortable, other aspects of this hotel were less impressive. To begin with, the room was extremely small with entirely too much furmiture. It might be OK for a single traveler, but wuth two of us in the room, we could barely pass each other. Additionally, the ceiling plaster was cracked and damaged. The elevators were EXTREMELY slow and to make things worse, only one of three elevators was working on Saturday. It was not unusal to wait 5 minutes for the elevator and by that time, so many people had gathered that the elevator became overcrowded because you didn't want to have to wiat another five minutes for it to return. The hotel staff was OK but not overly welcoming like they are at Hotel Palomar and Jury's Washington. Overall, Washington Marriott is just OK but not one of my favorites in DC. I'd try Hotel Palomar, Jury's Washington or Residence Inn Dupont instead.

“not worth the money”

Washington Marriott

4 of 5 stars
Jackson Heights, NY
Apr 29, 2008

My family just came back from a trip to DC. The hotel location is ok, a little far from the Metro by NYC standard. We thought the staff was friendly and nice. My kids loved the pool, where it was next to the gym and the fruits and water were complimentary. They also had lemonade at the front desk, which we all loved after a day's activities. The beds and beddings were very comfortable.

I requested a refrigerator and it was delivered to our room while we were out. Imagine our shock when we found the door open!!! I called the service if it was hotel policy...I still can't believe that they did that!!! On our last night, we ordered room service. The food was great but they forgot several orders and we had to call again for the rest of the food.

Overall, it was an okay experience. I just don't think that the two night stay was worth $850.30 (breakfast and parking NOT included).
Will I go back there again? Maybe, if the price is right!

“Very comfortable stay”

Washington Marriott

Apr 27, 2008

I enjoyed my visit. The walk to the Metro station was at least 5 blocks (to either Dupont Circle or Foggy Bottom). Bed was very comfortable, room was very clean. We were on the 6th Floor and did not here one single sound from the street. Very nice fitness center.
