Ate here with a large group. Service was slow but this can be accounted for by the kitchen having to turn out a large number of plates at one time. The restaurant was noisy and conversation was difficult. However, the food was good: White asparagus salad, seared day boat Scallops, yellow fin tuna (cooked exactly as ordered) and a warm plum crisp. The only cavaets were the bread (ordinary at best - can even be described as bad) and a crisp that was overly sweet. Other courses were wonderful with the correct size portions. I suspect that there are other restaurants of equal or better caliber in DC.

Butterfield 9 was our favorite restaurant of our 4 day trip to DC. The decor is simple and modern, and nice music plays in the background. Given the exceptional reviews, we expected a somewhat stuffy atmosphere, but it was quite the contrary. Service was exceptional, from the moment we stepped through the door until we departed. Our waiter was friendly, professional, and very wine knowledgeable. The wine list provided an excellent range in both selection and price. The food was excellent in every course. We highly recommend this restaurant and will eagerly return on our next visit to DC.
