This is a great hotel. We stayed over a weekend and thought that the price was really good value for money. The position can't be beaten for viewing all the significant sights of DC - just round the corner from the White House. The staff are amazingly helpful, especially door staff and the concierge, Mark, who can arrange anything and has all the facts and details of each sight at his fingertips. The rooms are A1 with 42" HD TVs and the beds are really comfortable. There is complementary coffee in the bar until 10.30 am, but unfortunately, no coffee-making facilities in the rooms. Breakfast in the hotel's Ici Cafe was classy and not over-expensive for what you get. So there are only three suggestions I could make for improvement: reduce the $18 per day valet parking charge; provide coffee-making facilities in rooms; and (difficult) build a swimming pool so that guests can cool down after all the walking around the sights on a hot day.

    • Disliked — Lack of coffee-making facilities and no pool

We booked through Priceline, so of course we enjoyed our bidding price--But, I would have paid full price for this hotel. The staff far exceeded our expectations.

“Outstanding customer service at the Sofitel DC”

I have just experienced an exceptional business meeting and weekend stay at this hotel. While I do not often use superlatives to describe the hotels I encounter in my business travels , I am compelled to make an exception in the case of the Sofitel DC!!

Every aspect of the business meeting I hosted at the hotel came off perfectly. The staff went out of their way to ensure that everything, from the room layout to the refreshments, was to my satisfaction. The conference services department was especially helpful in working out the details with my assistant and handling the many details - allowing me to focus only the content of the meeting itself.

I followed the business meeting with an especially memorable weekend in Washington with my 13 year old son. Here too, it seemed that everyone on the hotel staff was there to make our stay enjoyable - with warm smiles and gracious hospitality. Mark at the concierge desk was most helpful with recommendations and reservations. I was especially impressed by his interactions with my son - making him feel like an especially important guest!

As I stated at the outset, such customer service at "chain" hotels catering to business travelers is (unfortunately) an exception these days. I found this hotel and its staff to be outstanding. I would higher recommend the place for both business and leisure travel!!

“Absolutely Beautiful Hotel!”

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful hotel back in March on our first trip to Washington, DC. We were celebrating our anniversary and we wanted to make it a special stay so we booked this hotel and we are so glad we did. The building is absolutely gorgueous, the staff was really friendly (our first inclination was that we wouldnt be treated as well as people with alot of money would, however we were proven wrong). The concierge was super helpful with dinner reservations and the door man was always attentive. The rooms were awsome. Very clean and very roomy, our view was amazing and the bathroom was beautiful. The only negative thing i can say about it is the no flat sheet thing, not sure the reasoning behind that. We did not try the restaurants only because we had other places we wanted to check out around the city. However we did order room service a few times and the food was very good. We did go to Mortins Steakhouse and we loved every bite of it. There is a starbucks down the street and a few delis as well. The only other issue we had was having to pay for valet parking, although parking is at a premium in the city, considering the price per night they could have included that for no extra charge. I guess you pay for convinience! I would def stay here again if i could afford it and i would def stay at another sofitel hotel!
It is alot easier to show pictures then explain in detail what it all looked like so I've included pictures with captions. Hope this review helps!

“Definitely Stay Here”

Sofitel Washington DC

5 of 5 stars
San Francisco
Jun 11, 2008

I loved this hotel. My husband and I spent three wonderful days here. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. We had late night drinks at the bar on several occasions; had a late night dinner in their restaurant; and ate breakfast each morning, also in the bar. Each time was perfect. Great drinks, food, coffee, croissants. The location was ideal to explore all the Washington sights. We did a lot of walking and also made use of the nearby subway. Though this is hardly an inexpensive place, it was a delight. We even met the French ambassador during our stay. There are a lot of French people who not only work at the hotel, but stay at the hotel. The room was large and nicely decorated. Would stay here again...absolutely.
