“great location”

Courtyard by Marriott Washington Convention Center

Jul 8, 2008

We booked this hotel based on the tripadvisor reviews and price per night, $169 plus taxes.

We stayed for three nights over fourth of July weekend. The room was adequate size. The bed was comfortable. The room was very well kept. They could use a few small touches to make it even nicer like a mini refrigerator or mini bar. The elevators run quickly, but were a bit difficult to manage at first with the necessity of using your room card. I guess it serves some sort of security purpose. We only had limited interaction with the front desk, but they seemed relatively efficient. The breakfast downstairs was $10 per person, but we felt it was a good purchase given the quality and variety of the fare. We didn't make use of the swimming pool or gym.

As many other reviewers have said already, this hotel is in a very good location. I'm not sure who wrote that it is far from the metro station, but in fact it is 1 block away from the chinatown/gallery place train station where 3 different train lines stop. When we visited, we took the metro just about everywhere and it was easy.

It is on the adjacent corner from the smithsonian gallery of American art, which was fantastic. The spy museum was very close, but we didn't see it.

Gordon Biersch is a micro brewery located next to the hotel lobby. It was not only extremely convenient, but their wheat beer was great and the food was pretty good as well. We also ate across the street at McCormick and Schmick's seafood restaurant, which was also good. There is also a subway sandwich shop right outside on 9th street and Ella's wood oven pizza shop, both of which serve their purposes. We had brunch at the hotel monaco's restaurant called poste. This place was very expensive and not very good.

When we visited, we took the metro just about everywhere and it was easy. The national archives, which houses the declaration of independence and the constitution are one stop away.

The next time we visit washington dc we would definitely stay at this hotel again and we would also recommend it to friends and family members.

“Great Reasonably-Priced Hotel”

Courtyard by Marriott Washington Convention Center

5 of 5 stars
Avon, CT

I just cannot say anything bad about our experience at this hotel. My wife and I stayed here on a Sunday and a Monday night at the end of June. Location was perfect - a few blocks to the museums on the National Mall - next door to the Spy Museum and a block from the National Portrait Gallery/Museum of American Art. The popular Zaytinya and Ella's restaurants are also very nearby (we enjoyed them both). For a light breakfast, Brueggers Bagels is a block and a half away.

We were on the 7th floor. The room was small but for $249/nt very reasonable. We had a comfortable king bed. The other furnishings were functional and worked well for the size of the room. My wife would have preferred more counter space at the sink but at least it was located outside the room with the toilet and bath. The adjustable a/c worked well.

One of my pet peeves is waiting for elevators - even though one was out of service, we never had a wait for one of the three others that weren't. Check-in/out was a breeze and the porter and valet parking were quick to respond to our needs.

There was free coffee in the lobby in the morning. The hotel charges extra for a buffet breakfast.

All-in-all a nice stay.

“Great location-Penn Quarter of DC”

Courtyard by Marriott Washington Convention Center

4 of 5 stars
Lake Ridge, Virginia
Jul 1, 2008

This hotel is in a great location, Penn Quarter of Washington DC. Restaurants, theatres, shopping, bars, all around. The room was very clean, bright, and quiet, even though they were doing construction at the time. Standard room, not too huge, no fridge, but satisfactory.

“Agree with others- great place”

Courtyard by Marriott Washington Convention Center

4 of 5 stars
new jersey
Jun 29, 2008

I agree with the others- this was a nice hotel to stay in. Stayed for 2 nights and we were able to walk to everything. The staff is especially friendly and helpful. Even the valet attendants were kind and helpful. Only problem we faced was in the handicapped room the bathroom needed some repairs in the shower and the ceiling fan. This may be because this room is not used as often. Found the room to be spacious and clean. When we had a problem with the tv movie, they sent a tech person within minutes. Always felt safe here.

“Charming Hotel! Wonderful Location!”

Courtyard by Marriott Washington Convention Center

May 27, 2008
3/3 found this review helpful

This hotel was WONDERFUL-everything that we were looking for! I can honestly say that the other reviewers were correct when they said the location was wonderful. My husband and I stayed here over Memorial Day weekend to see the sights around D.C.

The location was amazing - only 1 block from the Chinatown/Gallery Place metro stop - super convenient to everything! You can get anywhere in a matter of minutes. Also, if you prefer walking, there are MANY attractions within walking distance. The Spy Museum is right across the street from the hotel, Ford's Theatre is just around the corner, Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum (a must see in my book) is 1 block...you can walk to The White House & Smithsonian in a matter of minutes if you wish.

The hotel was very clean and we found it to be very charming, as the hotel is in a restored old bank. This really added some character to the typical "Courtyard Marriott" hotel. The staff was courteous and helpful. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were your 'standard' hotel size. However, the only negative that I could really find was the street noise. On Saturday night there was quite a bit of street noise due to the bars/nightlife in the area (we were on the 7th floor). This was only on Saturday...the hotel should probably invest in windows that are a bit more soundproof.

My husband and I loved the restaurant and brewery 'Gordon Biersch' in the bottom of the hotel (this is attached to the hotel, but is not a Marriott restaurant - www.gordonbiersch.com). We ate there several times and were very pleased - The Tapas appetizer is a must have! On our last night in D.C. we wanted to go out for a really nice meal and went to 'District Chop House and Brewery' around the corner from the hotel. The food and service were some of the best that we've ever had!

I would highly recommend this hotel. The price that we paid ($143/
night) was well worth it! We will stay here again on our next trip to D.C.!
