Nearly didn't get there at all. Had booked flight with Sky Europe but received e-mail 2 weeks before trip stating that flight had been cancelled. In meantime had booked a non-refundable room deal on Ibis website (very cheap). Fortunately able to get alternative flight with Ryanair - better times and only 10 GBP more.
Hotel is easy bus ride from airport (No. 61) followed by 10 - 15 minute walk frombus/train station. Tickets 18SK from machine at bus stop if you have coins otherwise from information desk in arrivals.
Hotel typical of chain - room basic but clean and tidy, especially the bathroom. Reception staff very friendly and helpful and spoke good English. Only slight issue was the fact that I had booked a twin room on website but ended up having to share a double bed with my brother (well we were always close!!). Trams a bit noisy outside first thing in morning as they screech around the bend by the tunnel under the castle but otherwise fairly quiet. Breakfast extra. I didn't eat there but my brother stated that it was fine - usual fare of bread, juices, cold meats, cheese, etc.
Hotel very well placed for old town - 5 minutes walk. Bars to suit all tastes although all very quiet on the Monday/Tuesday we were there. However I can imagine them being very busy at weekends. Slovak pub, Obchodna 62, big old rambling place with lots of rooms. Cheap beer and popular with students and tourists. Nearby KGB bar at Obchodna 52 good too. Slang and 17 bars on Hviezdoslavovo nam OK. Whilst I wouldn't dream of going into an "Oirish" theme pub back home The Dubliner, Sedlarska 6, busiest and latest opening of places we drank at (0300). Good atmosphere. Lots of ex-pats and locals drinking Guinness at UK prices. Havana Club, Michalska 26, busy with live music and lots of "beautiful" people drinking rum based drinks and smoking cigars ! Greenwich, Zelena 10, classy cocktail joint with live jazz but expensive. Peoples, Gorkeho 1, cool, reasonably priced cocktails but deserted on our visit.
There are also some nice little locals' bars in the street at the foot of the castle (turm right out of the hotel).
Ate at Pulitzer, Zupne nam 7. Busy with local diners but food mediocre and service erratic (given wrong main course). Coffee & Bagel chain good for both. Schokocafe Maximilian, Hlavne nam, excellent for coffee and 27 types of hot chocolate !!

The location of this hotel is excellent. It's a 5 min walk uphill to the castle and 5 mins the other direction to the old town. Bars within a minute or two. The hotel was basic and clean, a hairdryer would've been nice though. I generally prefer a more local hotel than a chain but this served its purpose and i'd stay here again. The Christmas markets were nice but extremely busy in an evening. This adds a nice touch to a lovely compact city.

“Great hotel”

We recently stayed at the Ibis in Bratislava for a visit to the Christmas markets (which were a little disappointing.) However, the hotel was convenient, immaculately clean and very reasonable. The staff on reception were friendly and could not do enough to help. The bar and reception were open 24 hours a day and the breakfast was good and reasonable. An early or late breakfast was available for 5 euros.

“Nice little hotel”

The best thing about this hotel is its location. Right beside the old town - the only time we needed taxi was going to and from the airport. The hotel itself was fine. Room was of a decent size with a double bed. Room backed onto some sort of apartment complex, not the road so was very quiet. No tea/coffee making facilities or hairdryer in the room which was a disappointment. Could have done with more than two towels in the bathroom too but shower was excellent. All in all for €130 for two people for two nights - good value. Breakfast is €8 per person per day and is fine.

“Great Location, little to fault”

Ibis Bratislava Centrum

4 of 5 stars

When you book in an Ibis you know what to expect- clean, efficient.. The Centrum Bratislava is no different and also has a great location. Slap bang between the castle and the old town. OK, staff a bit over efficient- takes an effort to make them smile on the reception desk- but then they work like trojans. The room was clean and plenty large enough. The bathroom could have done with a little more attention to detail with a great deal of black growth around the seal in the shower. The trams never disturbed us- soon got used to it.

We used the hotel directions to get there via bus from the airport- proably not to be recommended as your introduction to a new City! Need coins for ticket and need to buy 60 mins, not 30. (18sk) Coffee machine in airport will give change but only to notes of 100 or less. If traveling in the dark, changing from airport bus (61) to no. 31 involves crossing street and walking 20 yards up road opposite .. Ie at 90 degrees . At Zochova walk up hill behind bus stop for very short distance . You can't see hotel from bus stop but it IS there! You are heading to the road which you can see going over the road the bus dropped you on- this will make sense when you see it.

Whilst the hotel does have a free internet terminal it is often in use for hours by businessmen setting up their office. Using the hotel wifi is a real rip-off. At Coffee&Go wi fi is included in the price of your coffee if you ask at the till. See my worldisround pages for more info. Also an internet cafe just right out of hotel and down steps.

Tried to find breakfast outside hotel first day- too difficult .. Should have used hotel. Since discovered that few places do breakfast. Breakfast in hotel is fine for €8. Eggs, cheese , ham, lots of breads, cereals , yogurt , jams, coffee , juice, teas.
