Got back from the Qubus on Monday 28th Jan. Firstly I must say that the hotel was first class for cleanliness, facilities and food and that is the reason I can still give it a rating of 2 after the ridiculous trouble we had.
It started when the taxi which we ordered through the hotel not only didn't come to pick us up at the airport but as we later found out had not even been booked by the hotel even after an email confirming the contrary. When I rang the hotel from the airport I was told "Well you might as well go to the taxi rank in the airport and get one from there" by the ever so helpful girl on the desk.
When we arrived at the desk the girl first blamed Outlook Express not working properly for the taxi not being booked, but then when she opened a file in front of her the top email on the pile was ours ordering a taxi and requesting a no smoking room. The girl then proceeded to blame another member of staff, who was new, for not passing on the message.
We were then asked if we had booked a double room. Yes we said. After another few minutes of tapping keys on her keyboard the girl came out with this little gem. "You can have room 219, but don't worry because you can swap it first thing in the morning". After we asked why we would need to swap rooms we were told that this room was on the 2nd floor which was the conference floor. No problem for us there, we thought. She had missed out one slight piece of information. At 2am, with the music from the disco playing in our ears I rang reception from our room to see what time the music would be stopping and was told that we couldn't be told as it wasn't booked for a specific amount of time but that we could move rooms now if we wanted. I told the girl that seeing as it was now after 2am we didn't really feel like packing our stuff up again and moving rooms, then I put the phone down and returned to our own private little nightclub.
Before breakfast the next morning we went to the reception and were told that they had a room available for us and would we like to check it out. We set off for room 633. On our arrival at this room we thought we could smell smoke in the room when we entered but the man on the desk had assured us that this was a non smoking room so we dropped of our bags and set off for breakfast. After breakfast we returned to 633, which still had a smell of smoke in it. However it wasn't until we seen the ashtray with ash still in it that we set off back down to reception. "Room 633 is definitely a non smoking room" said one member of staff. " No its not all the 6th floor is smoking" said another. "No room 633 isn't" replied the first. It was then that we intervened explaining that if the smell of smoke didn't give it away then surely the unemptied ashtray was a big clue.
Without the mystery being fully resolved we were offered room 716. Our 3rd room and we hadn't been there 24hrs yet. After checking out a smoke free room we headed back to 633 to pick up our restless luggage, only to find that the card keys we had for this room had been de-activated so we couldn't get our bags from room 2 to room 3. It was at this point that my patience ran out and I gave the 'its a non smoking room' reception man a piece of my mind along with a piece of a few other things as well.
Eventually we settled into room 716 with our luggage and without any ashtrays. It hardly seems worth mentioning that this room didn't have the internet access that all the other rooms had after all it wouldn't have been right to complain.
It was only on our last day that I read in the information pamphlet in the room that the hotel unbelievably had a silence policy between...wait for it....10pm and 7am. Fortunately I had calmed down by now or else I would have blown my top.
PS The taxi that the hotel booked us to go back to the airport turned up. What a lovely journey it was to finally be driving away from the Qubus.
