This is a hotel that is full of Venetian character and charm. We had chosen a junior suite and the room itself was stunning to the eye, from the 7 foot plus gilt mirrors, to the huge chandelier in the ceiling, beautifully painted ceiling to the dramatic bed! The hotel is full of wonders like the pool and spa area under the hotel. At the entrance there is the Barocco Vaneziano Café, where you will be overwhelmed with the choice of homemade chocolate pralines and wonderful cakes. The staff are pleasant but slightly reserved in their manner. It is almost a great hotel apart from the service being slightly cool and un-enthusiastic from some areas. This may be unfair as we found this was common in every restaurant and cafe we frequented.

Superb location very near the Charles Bridge, and a short walk to the castle.

We are so accustomed to having tea and coffee facilities in our room, this is not provided here although there is the option of room service. You only get 1 bottle of water free and must pay for any additions for the duration of your stay. The suite was so well insulated we had to turn off the heating for our stay, as apparently the air conditioning is controlled by the front desk and they do not use it at this time of year. The pillows were also dissappointing, and we asked for extras but to be honest they weren't great! The breakfast provided a decent selection, however the hot breakfast items were not hot!

“An amazing city break”

I stayed at the Alchymist Hotel mid January with my boyfriend. I booked this hotel based on trip advisor reviews and was not dissapointed. Prague was beautiful but the Alchymist Hotel was the highlight of our holiday.

LOCATION - The hotel is right beside the American Embassy so dont be alarmed when your car is checked by police when approaching the hotel. Located on a quiet street 5 mintues walk from Charles Bridge and approximately 20 minutes walk (uphill) from Prague castle the location is perfect. We would also recommend the boat trip and a theater show!

ROOMS - We stayed in a deluxe double room. Checkin was first class and our luggage was taken to our room before us. The whole hotel, including our room was breathtaking (i felt like a princess in a castle) The rooms are equipped with bath robes and slippers and are impeccably clean. Beds are turned down at the end of the day with chocolates left on the pillow.

FOOD - Breakfast is great with more than enough to choose from, we looked forward to it each morning. As we were celebating an anniversary we booked a table in advance via email in the Aquarius restuarant, which although a little expensive, is definately recommended.

SPA - Although we intended to use the pool and sauna we didnt get around to it, however I had booked myself in for a facial (i recommend you book in advance as there were only two available times and i booked a week before) the spa itself is breathtaking and well worth a look... my facial was first class as well.

OVERALL - We had a fantastic holiday. Will definately be returning to Prague and to the Alchymist Hotel. It was all amazing and highly recommended.

From the moment we arrived I knew we were going to have a wonderful stay.

It was a treat for my birthday and what an experience. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, we had free wine tasting every evening from 5pm. The rooms were cleaned every day, clean sheets every day, the hotel itself was spotless. The staff would come and turn the bed down each evening and leave chocolates on the pillow! The decor was baroque with wonderful floor to ceiling mirrors and crystal chandeliers.

We had a junior suite which was absolutely fab.

The hotel was situated not far from Charles Bridge but far enough away from all the hustle and bustle.

Make sure you go to one of the many concerts - we visited the Lichtenstein Palace which is just around the corner from the hotel and listened to the students from the music college which was wonderful.

For restaurants - ask the staff in the hotel as we tried Cest La Vie from the lonely planet guide and were not impresses - mega expensive>

“Wishing I Was Still There !”

Alchymist Grand Hotel and Spa

Feb 16, 2008

It's taken me ages to get sufficient time to say what a wonderful holiday I had at this luxurious, romantic and memorable hotel, which has a character and charm to match the historical city of Prague.

From the moment we were met at the airport by the hotel driver I was impressed with the personal (and professional) touch and attentive service from all of the staff. From check in to check out the Reception staff did everything they could to ensure our stay lived up to its 5 stars. In fact our expectations were surpassed.

We stayed in a junior suite and relished the large bathroom, seating area with plentiful fruit, stairs down to the large sleeping area which housed a huge, oh-so comfortable bed, and fine, artistic decor and furnishings. My partner was pleased to find the easy and inclusive internet access which is sometimes lacking in other hotels at this level. We also had our own courtyard but it was too cold outside to fully appreciate it!

I thought the location was perfect and within easy walking distance of all the main attractions....but make sure you bring comfortable shoes - most of the streets are cobbled.

The interior of the hotel might be considered rather over extravagant and over the top but it works, and every corner, or furnishing provides a photo opportunity. An evening in the bar is a must - sit back , relax and drink in the atmosphere in discreet and genteel surroundings.

Breakfasts were sufficient although I'd recommend that you get there earlier rather than later. We didn't try an evening meal in the hotel's restaurant but I'd recommend a well reviewed restaurant round the corner which had excellent, personal service and a huge menu.

Finally, a visit to the Spa is a worthwhile experience. We had the Romance Massage and then tried out the sauna - it was a perfect end to a perfect stay and I am still having withdrawal symptoms.

“Loved the Alchymist”

Alchymist Grand Hotel and Spa

Feb 13, 2008

Just got back from a glorious weekend in Prague with 6 friends. We all stayed at the Alchymist and we all, without exception loved it.

The first thing that struck me was that it was a lot smaller and a lot less gaudy than it looks on its own website. I was expecting it to be ostentatious, but it didn't look over-done at all in my opinion.

As we arrived in our taxi, police stopped our car and scanned it for bombs, due to the hotels's proximity to the American Embassy. They do this to every car that passes the Embassy.

We stayed in a deluxe twin room. Check in was smooth and painless, and our bags were taken straight to our rooms. The staff were helpful and friendly. When I wanted to book a restaurant, they had remembered my name. The rooms are equipped with bath robes and slippers and there's twice daily maid service, where your bed is turned and they leave you a couple of hand-made chocolates.

The free cheese & wine tasting between 5 and 6pm was a big hit! If you bear in mind that a glass of wine is usually about £5, you can see why. We tended to make sure we were back from our day out by 5 most days!

The health spa is lovely. Most of us had beauty treatments. We didn't use the pool, but were quite surprised to see it was a lot smaller than it looked in the brochure.

My only moan would be regarding the breakfasts. There is a nice selection of fresh fruit, pastries, cakes, yoghurts and fruit juices. There's also a hot buffet of eggs, bacon, sausages, beans etc., but it was never hot. I think they had forgotten to heat the hot plates!

All in all I loved Prague and would definitely go back to the Alchymist.
