I booked this hotel after having read a number of positive reviews. I think even TripAdvisor recommended it as one of the best 50 budget deals in the world.
I am pleased to admit that we were not disappointed.

There was a small mishap before our arrival … I mailed to the hotel asking for directions from the airport to the hotel … I got no reply.
On my complaint to higher management for this lapse, everything sorted out at once, with a lot of apologies.

Perhaps for that when we arrived at the hotel, we were upgraded to a “studio suite”. A nice way to keep guests coming back, one must admit.

In short, it was a pleasure staying there.

Very nice breakfast was another plus.

“A very good hotel”

Andel's Hotel Prague

Andels (pronounced Anyels) is a very nice modern hotel on the outskirts of the town. Our transfer from the airport was prearranged with Prague Airport Transfers (£30 both ways) and the driver was waiting for us and took us in a very nice car, with a video of Prague showing inside, direct to the hotel. Although it is not really central, the hotel is near the Andel metro stop, from where you can get to the top of Wenceslas Square in about 10 – 15 minutes. Nearby trams will take you to near the castle and the west end of the Charles Bridge in about 15 minutes.

The buffet breakfast is very nice (see pictures), and there are some good eating paces nearby, such as the Corte di Angelo Italian restaurant (Nadrazni 116/61, across the road from the metro entrance, in a courtyard). We should also mention the Reykjavik Icelandic restaurant (Karlova 20, not far from the east end of the Charles Bridge), where we had a fantastic meal for about £40 for two people. We went in December, when there were lovely Christmas markets at several locations, including one near the hotel. If you are interested in classical music concerts, there are quite a few, at the castle and in several churches in the city, though they do tend to be quite expensive for what you get.

“Brilliant hotel”

Very good hotel. Really. No complaint. Good location by the Andel metro station which is 3 or 4 stations from the main sites in the Old Town. A few stops away by tram from Castle. I really prefered this area, it may not feel like you are in the heart of the tourist bit of Prague, but somehow it is a good thing. This city is overcrowed with tourists. The hotel itself is very stylish, room are a little small but very comfortable. Our bathroom only had a shower, this is not a problem for me but might be for some. Staff is very helpful, although they may need to smile a little more, although, it doesn't seem to be a cultural thing around here. Free internet access in the lobby (a little slow), there is even a PC with a printer which was very useful to print my boarding pass when I did my online check-in. Breafast is a feast. Really cannot stop raving about this property.

“Great place”

Andel's Hotel Prague

This is a very nice hotel. It is modern, clean, and well kept. I was put in a studio, which is a very large room with a couch, 2 sitting chairs, king bed, medium size modern bathroom, and a kitchen area, even with a kitchen table. It even has a 40" plasma TV.

The hotel is also clean, and I was struck this morning by a large staff of maids cleaning the rooms. Impressive.

The free breakfast was well done, with lots of choices to choose from.

I agree with what some readers say about "nickel and diming", as they do charge for use of the gym (about $16) and use of internet ($8 for 30 minutes, or $22 for 24 hours). But if it helps keep the rooms more affordable to only charge some guests for these, then so be it.

It would be great if this place was closer to the tourist district (Old Town Sq.), but it is not far from there. Plus, it's one block from the Metro which will get you there quick.

I'm vary pleased with my choice of hotel in Prague. Much better place than last time I came to Prague.

“OK but not true executive”

Andel's Hotel Prague

3 of 5 stars
North Lincolnshire, UK

We stayed at the Andel for 4 nights and for once, the hotel did not live up to our expectations. We have stayed in a number of hotels with executive rooms and those at the Andel do not come up to the standards of others.

When we checked in, we were given a standard room and not a word was said as to why. It only became apparent when we walked in and could not see the amenities that were promised, so we went back to reception to question the room allocation. The gentleman advised that we had requested non smoking rooms and none were available on the executive floor, so we'd been put in a non smoking room elsewhere. I could understand this had we been offered a smoking room on the executive floor but we were not even advised. The gentleman told us that we would have to swap rooms the following day and he would leave a note for his colleagues.

We went to reception the morning after and started to explain what had happened the previous day but before a few words were out, Petr the trainee snatched the booklet from my hand, threw the room key in the box and then told me we were not due to check out for another 3 days! We were amazed at his attitude and then told him what the problem was, so he handed us over to his colleague and fortunately, he was extremely professional and sorted us out in no time at all. (We watched Petr "attend" to another traveller while we were being helped, the gentleman had merely asked for some change and it was slammed into his hand. Once again, not a very professional attitude)

Due to our original incorrect room allocation, we did not receive a welcome drink. We also did not receive a daily newspaper, never saw sight of the turn down service and was disappointed with the late check out availability, all of which are supposed to form part of the club room floor service.

We have stayed at hotels with executive rooms/ floors/ lounges and all were better that the Andel.

Having said all that, our compliments go to the breakfast staff for the excellent food on offer every morning. There was a wide variety of hot and cold food, including cheeses, meat, fish, fruit, yoghurts, cereals, breads, pastries, several juices etc. A very fine selection every morning and a great start to the day.

The hotel location could be criticised but we thought it was ideal, not too near the busy centre but in a safe area. It is only a one minute walk from the Novy Smichov shopping centre, which has 3 floors, a large Tesco, some excellent fast food oulets on the top floor and over 100 shops. There are multi screen cinemas close by, along with several excellent restaurants. The Andel Metro is only a 2 minute walk away and the tram stop is at the end of the road, taking you up to the main areas in about 10 minutes.

The hotel sells transport tickets and we would recommend using this option, otherwise you would need a fair amount of change for the ticket machines. You can also buy tickets from kiosks or information windows on the Metro stations. An 18Kc ticket is good for 20 minutes or 4 Metro stops, a 26Kc ticket is good for 75 minutes and any number of stops, including the funicular railway. A 100Kc ticket allows travel all day and is wise if you'll make 4 or more trips over the course of the day. A 3 day ticket costs 330Kc, so no benefit over buying tickets each day.

The hotel does have its own taxi service which looked very reasonably priced, although we stuck to public transport.

One thing I would advise is the Mastecard rate, if you pay using one of these credit cards you should be able to get 4 nights for the price of 3, so it's worth checking if this is available when you book.

All in all, the hotel was fine but not up to the standard that we had expected. It is a shame that the check in/ room allocation got us off to such a bad start.
