“Changed but Okay”

Hotel Tropic Banana

Jun 16, 2005

I use to know this hotel many years ago. It used to be an awesome place to be because the lobby would always be full of people hanging around the bar, listening to cool jazz world music and just enjoying themselves. It also used to have a restaurant with food that could exceed the likes of fancy restaurants in New York despite the fact that it consisted of just a few tables around a pool with christmas lights on the trees.

When I stayed over there last time the hotel was nothing like that. It was very quiet. It seemed like the only people staying there were my friends and I. (that is not necessarily the hotels fault maybe it was offseason) The lobby area was empty and I never saw the likes of the restaurant that used to be there.

On the lighter side. The staff was very helpful and very nice to us. The hotel looks very cute still. I never had any problems with water. It tended to get hot at night (but that is more of a national electric problem not a hotel problem).

So even though the Hotel Tropic Banana is not what it used to be, it is still a nice quiet hotel to stay in. Plus it is right in the middle of everything and right across the beach!!!!

Great tropical location, freindly multi lingual staff, large rooms with AC, walking distance to many good restaurants and bars - should you not want to eat at the good hotel restaurant........ Some mornings there was no hot water in the shower but that's part of the Carribean! Rates are seasonal and quite resonable. I am looking forward to returning here.....soon!

I have never written a review for a hotel, and airline, or a restaurant. however, I felt compelled to write something after spending five nights at this little hideaway, because it made my dominican christmas vacation. if you can get around the mosquitos and some inconsistency in the water flow... there is nothing i can say bad about this place. The service, the food, and the ambience made this a place that i would return to again, and again after that. You are near everything from additional sweet restaurants (other than the one on the grounds of the hotel), great beaches, clubs, and a little town. The only reason why i didn't want to write this was because i don't want too many more people to know of it's existence!

We spent a month in dominican republic with our 6 months old baby.
our week at the tropic banana was like being right in a small tahitian hotel. the gardens, the pool. Small and intimate, seconds to the beach. this is a memorable time for us and we plan on going back

OK, this was our little splurge as we were budget travelers. French and English spoken here which was helpful. We had a great room walkable to the beach(30 seconds), great restaurants on the beach(1 minute), downtown (5 minutes). the Bfast was good and the room was clean too. Only drawback was a problem getting water for a whole day of our trip. But come on, no need to fret on vacation, we jst stayed longer in the crystal clear water longer. This was a beautiful place and half of our pictures came from las terranes. Worth the look. See my review on Joker hotel and Residencia Dominica in Caberete, and Joker Hotel in Boca Chica. Chris
