“Best in Bundaberg but overpriced and soulless”

Quality Hotel Burnett Riverside

4 of 5 stars
Brisbane, Queensland
Feb 22, 2008

It's by far the best in Bundaberg and the tiny balcony with riverview is far more pleasant than being on the main road as the other hotel/motels are. Yes, the bar fridge was loaded; yes, there were three towels each for a one night stay (?); yes, it was clean; yes it was comfortable and adequate. It had typical boring hotel decor that seemed new. But most importantly, it was way overpriced. A$162 for a twin room for 1 night in a country town on standby rates beggars belief.

The service was very polite but I wouldn't say friendly. How much does a smile cost?

We didn't dine there as the restaurant had that noisy/austere/modern/expensive look, and it was empty. So we headed 15 mins down the road to Bargara. Now this is the place to stay, and you can get beachfront twin for A$145 per night. Kacy's restaurant had buckets of atmosphere and fab food.

We were greeted with pleasant smiling faces which was refreshing to see. The room was a good size with ample space the bathroom was very clean with soft fluffy towels( a must) we also had a view of the river and a balcony to sit and relax on with a few drinks from the mini bar which is very well stocked. We had a great meal from the H2O restaurant again the staff were wonderful I will be back to stay again soon and the quality Hotel its my 1st choice from now on.

“Revamp desperately required”

Recently returned to the hotel to find it in a desperte need of a revamp from our visit when first opened. Apartment was dirty, food smeared on a table, dust piled high bedhind curtains and beds, carpet mouldy from a leaking shower, lounge grimey, and walls require a repaint. Housekeeping was asked to return and clean the apartment but the place is well worn with little high maintenance. Pool was uninviting and curtains were dirty. Was told that we have tried to get someone to come and clean the curtains without success. Well, take them down and pop them over to the laundry! Lesson learned - go for accomodation at very recently opened hotels only!

“Adequate”

We stayed at the Burnett for two nights, as a jump off point to see the nesting turtles at Mon Repos Conservation Park. The Burnett is the nicest hotel in Bundaberg, but that's because there isn't any other choice. Basically, we thought our room smelled bad, was outdated and had a less-than-comfortable bed. We did, however, appreciate the close proximity to the train station and the main street which features many good cafes and shops. The turtle tour picked up at the hotel, which was convenient.

If you are traveling by car, I would recommend staying out at the coast at one of the larger hotels, resorts or apartments near Bargara, and then drive into town. But, if you're traveling by train, this is still the best choice

“Disappointed Christmas”

Quality Hotel Burnett Riverside

Mar 3, 2005

Our family booked the penthouse and two room units for a get together at Christmas. We were disappointed to find that the restaurant was closed for the four days we were there. Housekeeping was at a minimum but this was not a problem for us.

The main problem was that the elevator and corridors were not air conditioned. The penthouse which we assumed was fully airconditioned when in fact there was only airconditioning in the lounge which didn't filter into the bedroom so we slept on the floor where it was cooler. (There was a foldout lounge but we were unaware of that). In one of the two bedroom units, there was again air conditioning in the lounge and one bedroom. The unit in the bedroom did not work so four people spent their nights in the lounge trying to get some sleep.

The rooms were very well fitted out, mini bar was excellent but I would not recommend anyone to stay there in the heat of the summer as it was most uncomfortable.

The pool also didn't look like it was cleaned very often and the gym was under water with the equipment rusted. We will stay home next time.
