“Great Location, Great Value for money”

Hotel Causeway

Stayed here with Boo for a couple of nights, and was pleasantly surprised by it.

From pictures and reviews it seemed a bit mixed and as we arrived we really did wonder what we had booked. Although as soon as you step into the small reception you realise that it’s not going to be bad.

Staff are friendly and helpful (although I don’t think I saw the same person on reception twice the whole time of my stay!) and we could check in early which was great.

The hotel is in an amazing location, and for the amount we paid, I thought it was great value. There isn’t any car parking, but they do discount a general car park just up the road; keep your eyes peeled though, it’s a little hard to find.

The room was big and light, with a smallish but adequate bathroom. It was clean and modern, although some stains etc on the carpet. As in the other reviews, the rooms don’t have the most amazing views, but it doesn’t really matter.

This hotel is perfect if you know you’re not going to spend all night in, as you can walk out the front and be in a restaurant/bars within minutes.

“Stayed here for 1 night”

Hotel Causeway

Stayed here for 1 night on a Monday - the rooms are clean and decor fine, you don't have any views of anything particularly nice - just brick walls.

Paid 180 NZ dollars and have stayed in better places to be honest, for the same price but it served the purpose.
Location is brilliant - its quiet and central to the main city attractions.

Only negative thing i'd say is that I said before booking that it was our wedding anniversary and wondered if there was a chance of a free upgrade - they didn't acknowledge and they didn't offer me anything ! So always sways whether I'd return !

Anyway all in all - nice enough, but basic boutique hotel. Deck is nice - be even better if they stuck a pool in there !!!

“Great Location & Value For Money!”

Hotel Causeway

Stayed at the Hotel Causeway on Little Collins Street, Melbourne for a 1 night weekday stay in late Feb08. The hotel is centrally located, about 30meters from the entrance of David Jones Department Store on Little Collins Street & every imaginable shop / arcade is nearby!!
I booked the basic B&B rooms and was upgraded to a one King bedroom loft suite with circular spa bathroom. The room was clean, space was great however as reported in previous reports, a very strong smell permeated in the room. As assumed, it was the cleaning products. I left the small window open and turned the aircon to its fullest and went for a stroll around the very nearby arcades - the smell wasnt too bad afterwards.
The price I paid was AU$150 which included a morning continental breakfast.......a very good price given the hotel location.
There is a rooftop deck & gymnasium which appears to be satisfactorily equipped.

In summary, good boutique hotel in a perfect location on Little Collins Street in the heart of Melbourne City. It is definitely worth your $$$ and have no hesitation to return.

However if your willing to splurge a little, go check into the Westin Melbourne around the corner. Superb, elegant and a very smooth hotel.

“Needs Improvement”

Hotel Causeway

Feb 27, 2008

I arrived at Hotel Causeway at 10am for a one night stay and was pleasantly surprised on arrival to be told that I could check in immediately and that I had been upgraded to a spa suite on the 5th (highest) floor.

Unfortunately, the first thing that hit me on the floor was the obvious smell of cigarette smoke - both in the hallways and in my room. As a non-smoker, the smell bothered me quite a bit - usually, I'm used to hotels using a vaporiser to get rid of the smell but I don't think they had in this case. The windows are sealed so I turned on the air-con. As soon as I turned off the air-con the smell returned so I had to keep it on permanently.

The room was a good size but looked a bit on the tired side. The king bed was a big disappointment - basically two twins pushed together. I know hotels often do this, but in this case, one of the twin beds was about an inch lower than the other - which was obvious when sleeping - you couldn't stretch out and basically had to sleep on one side or the other. This should really be addressed by the hotel - its bearable for business travellers but I'm sure it could put a real dampener on a romantic getaway!

In addition, the curtains needed minor repair - some of the hooks were detached from the curtains and as a result the curtains couldn't be totally closed - not ideal if you need the room to be dark to sleep. A few other minor things could be fixed - such as obvious lack of dusting behind the TV - and old kettles, clock radios etc badly in need of updating.

Overall, greater attention to detail could make this hotel a lot better - the location is superb and with free breakfast, it can be good value. Until management addresses these issues, I don't think I would stay again, there are fresher and cleaner hotels in the vicinity around the same price point (admittedly not boutique).

“Right in the middle of Melbourne”

Hotel Causeway

We have stayed in the Hotel Causeway several times now and find it an excellent hotel. The rooms are a good size and very comfortable, the buffet breakfast (which was included in our tarif) was good and would cater for most requirements.

The hotel is located right in the centre of Melbourne within comfortable walking distance of all sporting venues (MCG, Telstra Dome, Rod Laver Arena etc), Docklands and Southbank. The hotel is in the middle of the main shopping area and a short tram ride from Victoria markets.

Definately our choice of hotel when staying in Melbourne.
