“Heaven in Oz”

Peppers Bale Port Douglas

Stayed in Port Douglas for three nights in November. 2 nights at Sea Temple which was gorgeous but had to have a night at Bale (my birthday) after reading/hearing about it. Yes, it is outrageously expensive at $1200 a night for two bedrooms, but you only live once. This place is on another level entirely. Each villa has three bedrooms, so if you only require say two bedrooms, they just lock up one of the rooms. You still have the spaciousness for the living areas. Own Pavillion style - smartly decorated, open plan, tropical haven where every need is catered for. Stayed with husband and two children (aged 8 and 10) and lots of room for us to all spread out. Kids were thrilled to have a Playstation 3 in their bedroom. "This is heaven" my son exclaimed. Swam in our own plunge pool, reclined on the day bed, sipped champagne, watched a movie, went for dinner in the restaurant, ate mudcrab, kids explored tropical rainforest, had a great massage next day, swam in resort pool which was all ours. Getting the message ...it was just fab. Kids begged us not to leave but had to go further north for my sister's wedding. Wow, what a stay. Had a tour of the whole development by sales agent - what a great place. With prices starting at about $1.8 million for a villa, now I know what to buy when I win lotto.

“Absolutely fantastic”

Peppers Bale Port Douglas

Stayed at Peppers for 2 nights (all we could afford) in a 3 bedroomed santuary.
What can I say? It was absolutely wonderful.
When we arrived, I must admit I was surprised at the lack of security, but realised that you had a remote control to enter the resort itself.
The reception is small and at this stage whilst it is still being built, there isn't much of a resort/hotel feel. Hopefully this will continue. The main pool at reception looks nice. It is small but very peaceful being surrounded by wooden loungers and cabanas. as everyone has their own sanctuary pool, I would image it is rarely used. The staff are helpful and are always there with a buggy if you don't fancy the stroll home. My husband used the spa which he said was good, but there didn't seem to be many treatments on offer.
Our room rate included breakfast and there was never more than one other table occupied. The breakfast was one of the most delicious I have ever eaten. You can choose whatever you like from the menu and it is all cooked to order. The fruit salad and yogurt was out of this world, as were the lattes and full english.
Now to the 'sanctuary'. I have stayed in some gorgeous places around the world and this comes close to the best ever. The theme is very peaceful with running water and glass and wood everywhere. The plunge pool was fabulous and all the rooms were furnished to the highest standard. The on demand movies were free and my sons face when he saw the PS3 in his room was great. At night all the candles are lit outside and it becomes magical, but close all glass doors or you will have visitors.
I only have one negative thing to say (apart from the price being outrageous) and that is that whilst the sanctuary is completely enclosed and private, if you have young children the bedrooms are not within earshot of each other. You have to go outside to reach each bedroom and they are seperated by gardens and the bathroom, so if your children are very young, you might want to consider your arrangements.
All in all - fantastic!

“Our own luxury sanctuary”

Peppers Bale Port Douglas

4 of 5 stars

The resort hasn't been opened long and consequently there is still quite a bit of building activity around and a bit of minor maintenance in completed bales-more of that later.

Our first impression was-wow!!! Our bale was everything we expected and more. We have stayed at the Four Seasons in Jimbaran Bay Bali and
were not surprised to find out that the resort was designed by the same architect. Comprising open plan pavilions we could not have been
happier with the acccomodation and the quality of the furnishings. I was a little surprised we didn't have a spa bath(just an ordinary one) but the later built bales will. The fountain into our plunge pool and the tinkling of water in the ponds through our lush garden were very relaxing. The bed was low to the ground but extremely comfortable. The open plan style ensuite windows don't have coverings
so the bedroom was quite light in the morning which may be a problem if you want to sleep in.

Our "home theatre"(Boise) experience didn't happen as the wiring hadn't been connected as yet. A selection of 40 or so free movies on call was available. The bale would be fabulous for entertaining as there are two large dining tables-1 indoor and 1 outdoor and a barbeque and well equipped kitchen. A nightly turndown service also lights the torches and candles on the garden paths.

My biggest surprise was when we arrived we saw kids were riding bikes
around on the paths. I had expected a total resort and did not realize that the bales were privately owned and some but not all were
in the letting pool. That being said it had no impact on our stay and
the resort staff were fabulous and very professional. Our bale was very private but many are not as yet until their gardens grow. If you
value privacy ensure when booking that you insist on a private bale, and I could suggest that numbers 23 to 30 are the better bales at this stage for privacy but that will change down the track. We paid a lower opening special rate because of the maintenance/building in the resort and had carpenters arrive 45 min before we due to check out(we were notified) to adjust door handles, which was a little annoying.

This being said we would not hestiate to return to Bale if our budget
permits. Our included spa treatments were delightful and added to our
sense of pampering and luxury. We didn't try the onsite restaurant as
we wanted to get out and about and sample lots of Port Douglas restaurants. Locationwise a car is really essential unless you didn't
want to leave the delights of your Bale, which quite frankly would be
very understandable!
