“Praise for The Temple”

Stayed at Sea Temple for two nights in November with husband and two children (8 and 10) and had an amazing time. Absolutely loved the simplicity of the design of this hotel and the rooms. Symmetry is all around and helps to give a relaxing feel. Beautifully maintained tropical gardens set the scene. Front entrance is enticing, furnishings are very "designer" and tropical and we all couldn't wait to get into the pool. Love the burning flames from the pillars in the pool at night also. You can swim forever in the lagoon pool, as my children did, around and around the resort, only coming back for a quick break and an icecream before they were off again. Need I say that they were exhausted at night, but still swam until 10pm. Gave me time to relax and read my mags. Ate at the restaurant for breakfast and dinner which was great. Good modern menu as you would expect. Would have loved to stay for a week or two to fully use apartment facilities. Kitchen was well equipped, modern and new. Great gift shop which was very reasonable (normal retail prices) for equatorial type homewares, beach clothing etc. Friendly front desk, but could do with extra staff, all guys seemed to be constantly busy, but not impolite. Excellent place for a family holiday or even just for couples I would imagine. Back in a heartbeat.

“perfect”

Sea Temple Resort & Spa Port Douglas

Dec 5, 2007

We booked this hotel relatively close to the time of arrival and were given a really good rate.
First impressions on arrival were great....beautiful gardens and a really well presented "foyer" opening onto the feature lagoon pool.
The staff were helpful but not intrusive and were well dressed un understated asian influenced browns and blacks.
The whole resort had a new feel and was very well kept.
The rooms - range form "basic" to pool access right up to penthouse were very clean, had fantastic bathrooms with all the beauty/bathroom products you'd expect. All had a private courtyard area and a well equiped minibar and fridge. The resort was very private and close to its own golf course if that is something that you migth want to do and I believe the green opened at 7am with good rates for the resort guests.

overall it did what it claimed - 5* for luxury, peace, top service and a fantastic pool. The only downside is that there were a lot of children around.......some well behaved but others under no control from their parents...so maybe no adults with poor parenting skills!!!!

Go...you'll enjoy it and even in Port Douglas terms its pretty special and way more affordable than some of the others and more modern than some better known hotel chains.......if you know what I mean.

Will definitely return,

“Sea Temple is Fabulous”

Sea Temple Resort & Spa Port Douglas

Together with two friends, my wife and I stayed for 4 nights from the 7th November to 11th November 2007. What a dream of a place! Magnificent apartments with beautiful furnishings and cooking facilities, the main room opened up onto a private terrace with the pool immediately in front of that. Each apartment has covered and lockable garaging for your car and the whole resort is meticulously maintained. A truly fabulous place to stay. We were there just before the main holiday season so it didn't appear crowded at all, in fact quite the opposite, as although the reception said they were nearly fully booked it seemed sometimes that we were on our own.
The pools and lagoons are really something, it took us about 20 minutes to walk in the water all round the circular lagoons and the main pool. Wonderful. The restaurant is very good, although we ate more often in Port Douglas, which is a very vibrant town with plenty to do and see.

“Absolutely Fantastic - A must stay”

Absolutely Fantasic - THE BEST in Port Douglas
We originally booked at Mandalay Apartments and were disappointed with the facility and went for a drive around Port Douglas and Found the Sea Temple. The Staff were extremely accomodating and we changed apartments. It was wonderful, beautiful pools and the rooms were very comfotable, clean and fitted with the latest luxuries. We have 2 small children who absolutely had a great time and felt welcome. The double bedroom apartment had its own plunge pool so if we wanted the privacy we didnt have to leave our apartment (Great with Little Swimmers). Have travelled alot and this is truely one of the best.

“Peaceful haven, but spolit by a large conference!”

Sea Temple Resort & Spa Port Douglas

3 of 5 stars

We booked into Sea Temple for 5 nights during our honeymoon because it looked like a relaxing haven of romance and tranquility. To a certain extent it was, however, our 5 night stay was spoilt to a large extent by a large Aviva conference which had literally taken over the hotel for the same time that we were there. This was disappointing as it is a relatively small hotel that does not seem to have the space or facilities to have conferences of this size. The ambience in the bar area was spoiled, there were always hundreds of people milling around the reception area etc. We felt like second class citizens.

The hotel should decide whether it is aiming for the romance and peaceful 'spa' end of the market or for business conferences because the two do not mix well in a small hotel like this.

The service suffered too. We missed several shuttle buses into Port Douglas as there was a line of coaches waiting to take delegates out in the way and the shuttles kept missing us. Also I couldn't get a spa appointment for me or my husband when we wanted one due to the delegates partners filling them all up.

On the day we wanted to go snorkelling on the GBR, we ordered breakfast in bed and it arrived wrong - we'd ordered eggs on toast and a full breakfast and 2 full breakfasts turned up. Also we were missing a fork. By the time they'd gone back to the restaurant to collect a fork and returned with it my breakfast was stone cold. Also they didn't send us orange juice or toast.

Video on demand in room was good but one of the movies got stuck and although it was refunded we never got to watch it or an apology.

The studio room was nice, we liked the indoor spa bath. However, given that we were on honeymoon it would have been nice to be upgraded, especially since the hotel seemed half empty (apart from us and the conference delegates!)

The swimming pool was lovely, and the swim out rooms were great, but a lot of them were in the shade, so it would depend where you were situated as to whether you'd use it to sunbathe in or not.

The pool music was awful. One day the bartender played Jack Johnson which was great and suitably ambient, however the rest of the time it was heavy rock and didn't suit the location at all.

The cocktails were lovely, the food great at the restaurant though. One waitress (Miriam from Singapore) was particularly friendly and pleasant.

All in all, it's a stunning hotel, but the stretch of 'four mile beach' it's located on is not very nice - very narrow and wild. We would go back but stop in a one or two bed apartment rather than a studio room, and we'd make sure there were no conferences on at the same time.

    • Liked — Swimming pool and the restaurant
    • Disliked — Large hotel - i.e. lots of rooms but relatively small amenities (i.e. one bar and restaurant) - too small for a conference!
