“Perfect location, hosts, stay”

Challis Avenue is the most beautiful Avenue in Sydney - lined with historic buildings and excellent cafes as well. It was a pleasant bonus to live at Simpsons Hotel for a week. And I say "live" because Vanessa and Keith really made us feel very welcomed. First of all, the location is excellent - highly recommend Fratelli Paradiso, La Buvette and the Sardine Room. Could have eaten out on Challis Ave the whole week - the quality of the food and beverages was of very high standard - if not the best in Sydney. Simpsons Hotel is a historic building - if you are looking for a trendy, sparse, sterile apartment, then look elsewhere. If you are wanting to experience Australian history and be surrounded with beautiful Australian antiques and artwork - then stay here. The lounge/library is an excellent place to retreat to after a long day of sightseeing. Keeping in mind that the building is over a hundred years old, they have done a great job in decorating it. The king bed was the most comfortable one I have slept in other than my own!

    • Liked — The most comfortable bed. Location is central, but not noisy!
    • Disliked — Need new wardrobes - or even antique ones. More room to hang clothes.

There's not much to add that hasn't already been said! Its a lovely place, well situated and a delight to stay in. Keith, Mairie and Vanessa were the ideal hosts - helpful and full of ideas and useful tips for sightseeing. There are lots of restaurants to choose from in the area too.

Hospitality extended beyond the expected, too. We arrived at 7.45 am after a very long flight. Of course, our room was not ready but we had use of a bathroom to shower and change in, as well as breakfast (not charged for).

It's clear why this hotel is currenty #1 in Tripadvisors list for Sydney.

“Victorian Splendour with a hint of the Unusual”

This heritage hotel is located in a trendy area within easy walking distance of waterside restaurants, the Botanical Gardens
and the Opera House etc.

Breakfast is served in the Conservatory and the bedrooms are furnished in keeping with the period. The decor of the lounge is traditional, very comfortable and and has a wonderful collection of unusual objet d'art.

“Friendly and luxurious boutique hotel”

Where can I start? This is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. It's most like having friends of friends invite you to stay at their lovely big house with your own bit of the house to come and go as you please!
Nothing was too much trouble for Vanessa and Keith, and they were both truly welcoming and generous with their time, trouble and attention. We benefited most from Vanessa (simply because of the times/ days we were at the hotel), who recommended things to do etc.
The room was beautiful as was the whole place. Incidentally, there's access to a PC for the internet.
I can wholeheartedly recommend that you stay here! the location was perfect, just a short stroll from the botanical gardens and from there to the city centre and the bay.

This is a short review as so much has been said in other reviews about this excellent hotel We particularly liked the friendliness and help from Keith ,Marie and Vanessa who helped us celebrate our friends 60th and gave good advice on restaurants and everything else After a hard day there are good restaurants within five minutes walk and it is a lovely walk through the Botanic Gardens to the Opera House . Beats getting the bus.
A lovely atmosphere here surrounded by quality furniture in a historic house. You cannot beat it
