Nov 2007 - Needed to stay for one night in Sydney before travelling on so found the best rate for this hotel at hotel.com. Very pleased with location which was in the centre of Sydney near CBD. Staff were friendly and helpful whilst the room was nice and clean with plenty of amenties provided. Although the room was not overly huge it was more than adequate for our stay with a good sized bathroom. There was a view into the well of the hotel but then we did not book this hotel for the view!
As we arrived late we were not too hungry so found a Woolworth's (similar to Tesco in UK) where we bought ourselves some rolls and snacks whilst a little way along the road we found a bottle shop where you purchase beer/wine etc.
At this time (9pm) there were plenty of beggars to be found on the streets. However, there appeared to be just as many the next morning but this is not unique to this area. It is fascinating to find that often they are better dressed than you are!
In the morning turned right out of hotel and crossed the road to find a small, clean and effecient eatery called the Flame Grill where I had poached eggs on toast + coffee whilst my husband had scrambled eggs on toast + coffee - excellent and all for AUS$13.80!!
One word of warning:.......................... taxi drivers do not like short journeys so when we alighted from ferry at Circular Quay and asked taxi to take us to Metro on Pitt - we were told \9after we had begun our journey) that there was no such hotel and we were wrong only to find after driving around and the meter now showing over AUS$12.50 (should have been only around AUS$5) hey presto, here was the Metro on Pitt street! Not impressed at all with the arrogance and blatant rudeness of the driver.
Would recommend this hotel and would certainly stay again!
