Let me just start off by saying this place is beautiful, and relaxing. My husband and I wanted to go to a really nice place to celebrate our five year wedding anniversary. I had read so many trip advisors reviews pertaining to the Excellence Riviera resort. Some of the reviews had some negative and positive remarks. I am one of those people who have positive things to say about the resort. When we first arrived in Cancun we were very happy to only have a 20 minute drive to the resort, after sitting on the plane for hours we were relieved that we were not going to have to sit in the bus for very long.
Resort: When we first arrived at the resort we received a cool wet towel, and a nice glass of champagne. All the workers at the resort are willing and happy to accommodate you. We were given a tour of the resort as we were taken to the concierge desk. There are two concierge desks, one in the main lobby, and the other is for the guest who signed up for the Excellence Club. Since we were celebrating a special vacation we upgraded to the Excellence Club. So worth it….When we arrived at the concierge desk we were greeted with another glass of champagne. After we got our room key we were taken up to our room 8253. There are no words to explain how beautiful the view was. The room was equally as beautiful. The grounds of the resort are clean and beautiful. The workers are always cleaning and keeping the place up. The white sandy beach is equally as clean. Every morning they have the workers out there in a tractor cleaning up the sea weed.
Excellence Club: When you sign up for the Excellence Club, and you are celebrating a special day (honeymoon/anniversary), you will receive a dinner on the beach, breakfast in bed and two couple’s massages. The dinner on the beach was beautiful; there was a little wind so it was not to hot while we were enjoying our romantic dinner. We received a nice bottle of champagne. The meal was so good, and the service was the best that I have ever received. They had some one come buy who places music. We were fortunate enough to hear someone place the harp. I only wished he could have played more then three songs. Breakfast in bed was wonderful. They brought us the freshest fruit, pastries, orange juice, mimosas, and coffee. We did not take advantage of the massages, and when we went to schedule it for later in the week, there were no available times. So if you want to get a massage you may want to book it the day you arrive. As a guest you do get a view of the ocean, your own private bar, and pool. You also get to use the X-lounge. The X-lounge is a place for you to go and relax after dinner, and have a few cocktails with your significant other.
Restaurants: If you go to the resort expecting five star foods you will be disappointed. The food is average, but I really enjoyed it. The presentation of the food is amazing. I was even telling my husband the Chef Gordon Ramsey would be impressed with the presentation. I would have to say that Chez Isabelle was my favorite restaurant. There are some restaurants that you have to dress up. You may want to view their website to see what the dress code is for each restaurant. Most of the restaurants are dress pants, and buttoned shirts for the men, and dresses, skirts, or pants for the ladies.
Bars: There are many bars at this resort. The martini bar is in the lobby, and is always busy. We spent most of our time at the Cielo bar. If you are part of the Excellence club you will be able to use this bar. There is a really nice lady who works at the bar. Her name is Amable. She will remember your name, and drink every time. She is very friendly and personable. The blue bar is more for the party type crowds.
Pools: The pools close down at 8pm. There are many pools to swim in at this resort. However if you want a mat to swim on you may want to get to the pool early. If you want a lounge chair by the pool under the palapas you will want to get up early and place your towel on the chair that you want. There are many chairs, but most of them are in the sun.
Tips: Since this resort is all inclusive you are not obligated to tip, but we always tipped. When our room was cleaned everyday we left a tip everyday. Also when we ordered a drink from Amable we tipped her for every round. We also tipped at the restaurants. I feel you get treated better if you take care of the people who are taking care of you. They certainly show their appreciation when you do tip.
ATM Machine: There are some ATM machines, but if you don’t have a local bank card you will not get the type of currency you are looking for. The ATM will only give you pesos. If you want American money you will want to go to the concierge counter.
Security Safe: The safe is a little tricky; just make sure it is locked when you leave the room. We never had any problems with theft, but it easy to forget to lock the safe. It may seem like it is locked, but if you don’t clear the password every time and re-enter the password the safe wont lock.
I know that this review is lengthy, but I wanted to share the experience that we had. My husband and I are very happy that we had picked this place to stay at, and we will certainly be back next year. We can’t say enough good things about this place.
