We stayed at this place for quite a few nights as the last stop in our honeymoon. Despite worse than average weather, we had a wonderful stay. We got there without any reservation, just wandering around the Riviera Maya looking for a nice place to stay (and having read some reviews in Tripadvisor).
We immediately liked the setting, a smaller resort with everything we wanted, close to a small town, and above all without wristbands!
The staff is very friendly and attentive. They showed us around, and we could pick our room among six different alternatives, all with excellent views, but some larger and better oriented than others. The private beach is fantastic, they keep it very clean, and the pools are great.
Overall, a great experience.

For a quiet, relaxing and most wonderful vacation, Ceiba del Mar is it. The food, the service, the rooms, the people -- all exceed expectations. It is a quiet resort. No night life to speak of -- just the way we wanted it. This was our second visit and I'm already dreaming of our third!

My husband stayed at Ceiba del Mar last month for 4 nights and had a really nice time. The staff was very nice, our standard room was spacious and bright - just like the -photos on the website. The beach and pool was nice and not at all crowded. The hotel is about a 5 minute ride ($2-3) from the town of Puerto Morelos, so its easy to leave the property. We really like the spa as well. In short I think if you are looking for a relaxing & easy to get to getaway, that is not touristy this is a great spot.


The diving was surprisingly good and much cheaper than other places we've been. We went with Aquanauts Dive Adventures (www.aquanautsdiveadventures.com ) and would highly recommend them. The shop is run by a husband and wife couple (William & Crescent), most of their equipment is less than a year old. We lucked out and were the only 2 divers with them for 3 days. Our favorite dive was the night dive- which I can only describe as Magical.

On the food front, John Gray's was our favorite place by far. The restaurants at the resort where good as well - but we only had lunch there. Our package included one romantic dinner, which was not very good - so I’m not sure I would recommend the all inclusive package.

My wife and I spend a week at the Ceiba del Mar in late March/early April. It was recommended by our travel agent (Neil at Protravel in NY) and the experience was surprisingly more wonderful than we expected.

We booked a junior suite and were met right outside of customs at the airport by their driver Julian in a spotless white van (included in the room rate) with cold towels and water at hand. After a smooth trip to the hotel we arrived and were handed glasses of champagne at check-in. We were upgraded to a master suite. The rooms are spacious, fresh and nicely decorated.

The staff at the beach were always there to meet our needs. Miguel the pool and beach concierge was always there to set up our chairs, Ana and Joanna were always at hand to bring a modelo or Margarita. We ate dinner at the Xtabay twice and Arrecife once, and had room service once. All the meals were good and reasonably priced for a resort (although if you are expecting prices like Red Lobster you will be disappointed.) Service at the restaurants was very attentive.

The grounds are immaculately kept, and there seemed to be more staff that guests. The very private beach is raked of sea grass at least twice daily.

Although another reviewer was pleased that they accepted her child, for the comfort of the other guests please don't bring children. There third evening we were there two shreiking babies materialized next door to disturb our wa. The hotel immediately respnded to our complaint and moved us to another room, telling us that the family was part of a big group, and we were not disturbed again. However the hotel should not state that it is adults only and then accept children..
