“Value for Money”

Hotel Limonaia

As a small tour operater I put together a holiday through an agency with an office in Italy, they came up with this hotel at a very good price including flights. I led a party of 41 people this month fearing the worse after reading past reviews. I must ask which planet some of these people are from? Yes it is a steep climb upto the hotel but there is a minibus service, some of my clients are in there 80's and managed very well. The views are magnificent, the rooms are clean and quite spacious and the facilities are as good as I have experienced in higher rated hotels. The food was plentiful with a large range of dishes including pasta, soups, a superb salad bar, fish and meat dishes daily, excellent potato dishes and an extensive dessert buffet. All my clients returned saying it was a great holiday and commented that the hotel was very good value for money. Don't let the proffesional moaners put you off!

“Limonaia - very disappointing”

Poor security (see review 21). Food terrible (see other reviews). Reception staff obstructive and disinterested when we needed them to help with a theft from room. Large tea towels provided daily in bathroom. Limone is a fantastic setting - hotel very disappointing. Never again to this hotel. Pool and fitness centre good.

“Great location, good value.”

Hotel Limonaia

Aug 4, 2007

We got a good deal on a one week holiday to this hotel, including flights, in late May (£500 altogether for two adults). The hotel itself was fine in that it was perfectly clean, and had a lovely pool with a fantastic view. Negative aspects include that the food was mediocre but edible, and the service merely adequate. However, for the price we paid it was fine. I wouldn't pay more than we did though. The hotel is quite spread out over a number of levels, so I can't comment on all rooms, however we were lucky in that our room was excellently appointed with a fantastic view of Limone and the lake and mountains. It is a 15 minute walk down to the town, as the hotel is further up the hill side. The walk back up is really steep, but again that didn't bother us. For people with mobility difficulties, there is a regular mini-bus for especially for the hotel which regularly goes up and down from hotel to village.

The village of Limone is lovely, quite small, although it is quite touristy with all restaurants catering for tourists rather than offering typical Italian cuisine. But in my opinion Limone is in a really good location on the Lake Garda because it is more spectacular up at the northern end of the lake (with the impressive mountains) than further to the south where the landscape becomes totally flat. From Limone you can take a little ferry to most other towns around the lake, or if you hire a car you can travel around the lake by road, or even better, up to the hillside villages behind Limone of Tremosine and Tignale where views over the lake are fab (Watch out for the windy roads though, with huge drops to the side!). For traditional, fantastic value and delicious italian cuisine I'd recommend a visit to a restaurant called Miralago in Tremosine. This restaurant is perched on the edge of a cliff (kind of hanging off it) with a glass wall to provide stupendous views! It was really good, but not for people who are afraid of heights!

“This hotel has the most amazing views.”

We had read the reviews for this hotel and went with some trepidation. Our first siting of the hotel was a bit disappointing, but our room was spacious and clean and had such a beautiful view of the lake and down towards Limone that it made up for it. The hotel could do with a bit of refurbishment but we got a late deal bargain and got real value for money. All in all we had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday. Although the food is not of a high standard it really isn't that bad and we always had plenty of choices.
The walk into Limone is breathtaking and the village itself a gem. It's very easy to get about the lake on a boat and buses run regularly from the resort.
We found the staff really helpful and our room was cleaned daily with fresh towels (tea towels!) If you like fluffy towels take your own.
All in all a great value holiday in a truly magnificent part of Italy.

“excellent location, good value for money”

Hotel Limonaia

4 of 5 stars
Abergavenny, Wales

I was aware of the hillside location before booking this hotel. The views, especially the sunset and waxing full moon were delightful.
Check in was painless. Fortunately we were allocated a room close to the main hotel building, which houses the restaurant. (Walking to some of the other rooms would be a pain, especially after a few glasses of Prosecco).

As we had a hire car (by far the best way to get a transfer from Verona airport), the steep hill did not trouble us. Although we did choose to walk into town on a few occasions. The town is lovely by the way. Lots of little alleyways to explore, tiny harbours and even a beach.

Our room was more than adequate. Just my 16 year old son and me in a 2 bedroom apartment with separate lounge/diner and a balcony. The fridge was very welcome.

The food in the hotel was adequate. Breakfast got a little boring as there was little variety. The anti pasta served to your table at dinner was usually excellent. The dinner buffet was fine with a selection of salad & hot foods. For the type of hotel I thought the restaurant staff were very friendly: they cope very well getting a huge number of diners through.

The bar terrace is a lovely place to sit with a bottle of Prosecco after dinner.

We did not stay in the hotel during the day. We were there to explore
Lake Garda and the mountains to the north. We used the excellent ferry service to get around the lake. Malcesine is a must. Our hire car took us on some excellent trips to the Brenta Dolomites and Lake Iseo.

Overall, this hotel served us well. It made an excellent base for a touring holiday in the area, especially if you have a car. It was very cheap too: just £25 per person per night for half board.
