We were at the begining of the season with weather mixed, half hot and sunny, half warm but wet. When reading these reviews I think you need to realise at what time of the year the reviewer travelled and what price was paid! We were definitely low season and "half book" price-so read the review accordingly! We had a "superior room" (at no extra cost) and the view was stunning. To open your curtains at 7.30 a. m. to be able to have a brew in your room and sit on your balcony and savour not only that but also the view was magic.
Sadly, free drinks don't start until 10.00 but there is always Asti Spumanti or the equivilant at breakfast! I have read all the reviews so not too much to add but, if you are worried by the reports of lots of steps then do not fear. Yes, it is steep, hence the views but with clever planning you can avoid most of the steps and just follow the road-remember this is Italy and there is a road way even to the beach!!! To get to the private beach which is stunning, instead of crossing the road and walking the 90 or whatever steps, take a right, walk through the car park and walk under the roadway towards the lake, see on the map you're given on arrival or ask at reception. This way is all down hill, you pass the campsite on your right, the crazy golf on your left, along the beach a bit, past the boats up 3 steps and you're at the free blue sun loungers. The toilets belonging to the hotel are up quite a few steps but if you walk along the beach a bit further there are beautifully clean public toilets (at least at low season!) At the beach there are ducks, swans, who will preen themselves in front of you, sparrows, the odd snake, lizards a plenty and fisherman who actually catch fish-amazing!
To get to town, on foot, the first third can be done on a quiet road through the olive groves, just behind reception follow the signs for the Hotel Mercedes.
Live entertainment was a bit mixed-the classical group were stunning, starting with Vivaldi, what else being you're near Venice, his birthplace, some Mozart and tunes from "My Fair Lady" the other performers on other nights with keyboard -welll!!!
Sadly, there are rooms above the bar so although they do a childrens disco at 7.00, at 10.20 it was switched off and although 24 of us wanted it to continue until 11.00p.m. ( yes, that late!) it didn't happen. Shame especially as it was a birthday celebration.. This was our only compaint- we weren't expecting all night bopping but there is very little. Also we were expecting there to be a "paying bar" after 11.00, but this did not happen.
