My wife and I chose to stay here after reading so many good reviews on Tip Advisor. We spent four nights here during out 10-day trip. Dingle was the highlight of our vacation. I am so gal we stayed here. We woke every morning to a stunning view of the bay and sea from our window. Breakfast was good. You get a good variety of fruit and cereals as well as the option for a full Irish breakfast, salmon and eggs, mackerel, and there might have been another option that I forgot. Pax House is located a short walk to town. The town of Dingle is very cool. It was less touristy than other towns we were in. If you want to check out real traditional pubs go to Foxy Johns, Dicky Max, and O’Flaratys. Foxy Johns is half hardware store and half pub. It’s worth checking out for a pint. When we walked in it was all locals speaking Gaelic. We ended up talking to some local fisherman.
Pax house is decorated with the owner John’s eclectic art. Very cool collection. John really makes this place special. He is very welcoming. He sets an atmosphere where you want to talk and meet other guests. He doesn’t do it in an overbearing way. He just wants you to have a good time. He’s great for suggestions about what to do and how to get places. He really makes everyone feel like the most important guest. On our first day he made us tea and apple cake shortly after we arrived. At night we found our covers turned down and a treat left next to the bed. We thought that was a nice touch. John’s dog Rio is also a nice touch to the place. She is very friendly and loved to play.
If you stay here, ask John how to get to the path that goes along the coast. You have to take a small little road to get there. You can see it from Pax House. The hike is awesome. We even met up with a local farm border collie that followed us along on our hike. The view was incredible and we only saw two other people the whole time we were out there.
It did rain a lot while we were in Dingle, so bring your rain jacket. We didn’t let the rain slow us down. Being from Arizona, it was actually a nice change for us. We also spent an afternoon at Inch Beach, which is on your way into Dingle. It has very green grasses that slowly turn into sand. You can see the occasional surfer out in the water. It was a relaxing hike along the beach. What we liked about Dingle was that you really could get out of your car and hike, walk, and explore away from all the tourist. In the summer they have insane amounts of daylight hours. When we were there it got dark around 10 pm or so.
I really can’t say enough nice things about this place. I wouldn’t have changed a thing about our stay. Dingle is a slice of heaven. It is what I had in my head when I thought of Ireland.
