“This place makes a Travel Lodge look like The Ritz”

The Lymm Hotel

Apr 28, 2008

When you book a three star hotel you expect the standard to be average, right? But you do expect the staff to be courteous and a good level of cleanliness. I was wrong on both counts. When I checked in the lady behind reception ignored me while she chatted to her colleague about “what a great night she had last night”, after she had finished she then proceeded to just grunt at me as we went through the checking in procedure. The room was in an annex building across the car park!, built in the 60’s with decor to match. Don't get me started on the food. What a hell hole!!

“Hotel with attitude”

The Lymm Hotel

Upon arrival, the hotel is not in the most celubrious surroundings. The hotel reception, restaurant and bar are in one building and the rooms are in another.
A very polite check in was followed by a trek across the car park to find my room. The room was very small and deorated with flowery decor, including curtains and bedspread. The bathromm though was large and well equipped.
The bar was spacious, and although very expensive for drinks served good food.
The breakfast in the morning was very good with over the top service offering a good variety to cater for any palate.
This hotel went out of its way to try and offer a five star service, but the three star rooms and the local area were not in keeping with the service.

“The Staff were great”

The Lymm Hotel

3 of 5 stars
Peterborough

The hotel is located in Warrington Cheshire and is a 63 bedroomed property. The staff at reception welcomed us gladly and was very friendly, the room was warm and homely and guests were also very friendly. The only gripe we had was that everytime we purchased 2 drinks it cost us 12.00 pounds or more, we believe that the cost of a drink at the bar was very expensive and we were not given any prices we were just shocked when we hear the cost when paying for them.

We would encourage older people to go to this hotel but we would not travel there again as it took us three hours from where we live in Peterborough UK.

Overall, the rooms were clean, food tasted ok and staff and guests were very friendly.

“A good hotel in a lovely village”

The Lymm Hotel

I frequently have to visit Warrington, and the only bright spot of the trip is a night at the Lymm. As well as being excellent value for money, the staff are friendly and the breakfasts amongst the best
I have eaten in an English hotel. The evening food is reasonable, but
I usually take a stroll down to one ofthe five restaurants in the charming village (with its winding roads and canals).

The hotel isn't perfect - there is no gym and the beer is lousy - but
the friendliness of the staff, the superb sausages and the beauty of the village make it a real find. It's also superbly located, just 5 minutes from the M6.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — The superb ingredients in the breakfast: fresh, organic and plentiful
    • Disliked — Hotel bar only has fizzy beer (i.e. no real English ales)

“Great staff and good food”

After an awful stay at Ramada parkway leeds the night before, this hotel cheered us up. While the place needs a bit of a refurb, the attitude of the staff and the great breakfast cheered us up. We phoned ahead to say we'd be late arriving, and the young lady on reception was very helpful and volunteered to make sure we would get something from room service even though it ended at 9pm. On arriving, staff went out of their way to accomodate us, offering a tray from the restaurant in our rooms, room service or a bar meal. We had the steak sandwich which arrived quickly and was very good.
My twin bed room was ok. I would have preferred a double bed, and the TV has seen better days. You have to go out of the building to reach some bedrooms in the extension, and it was raining that night.
Breakfast was excellent, smoked haddock and poached eggs were top quality, toast from good bread rather than sliced rubbish. It's a pleasure to find a hotel that takes pride in the quality of food ingredients.
While waiting later in reception, I overheard staff dealing with a customer who wanted to bring a dog which needed some looking after. The good humour and attitude of the staff was once again in evidence. I had been disappointed with McDonald group hotels after an awful stay at Savil Court Egham, and a so-so experience at Bobsleigh Hemel Hempsted, but this place made me reconsider my opinion.
