My husband and I stayed at the Neptun for one night before and one night after our voyage on the Hurtigruten Coastal voyage. The Hotel is situated a few minutes walk from the shops and the fjord.
On the first visit we were surprised to have an outward facing suite on Floor 6 for a one night stay but felt it was very tired and needed a thorough update. Bathroom was particularly in need of attention.
We arrived close to midnight and found the male Receptionist friendly and helpful.
On the second visit, we had an outward facing standard room on the fifth floor. Again we felt the room needed updating. The hair dryer was held together with tape for instance.
Check in was rapid but we found the female receptionist particularly unhelpful when asking for advice regarding an excursion. Staffing levels appeared too low on Reception to cope with demand.
Other guests appeared to have problems relating to lack of a recorded booking in the car park and secondly an apparent attempt to change twice for car parking.
Breakfast was adequate but there were no apparent signs pointing to the breakfast room which could only be reached by stairs and not by lift.
We ate in the cafe bar on our final evening and found wine prices even more excessive than in general in Norway - circa £10 for a glass of wine. But the food was very good. We did not sample the "famous" restaurant.
Would we stay again? No I don't think so. Other people on the same trip spoke highly of the Strand Hotel.
