“Great hotel in the centre of Göteborg”

Radisson SAS Scandinavia Hotel

We stayed at the Radisson SAS Scandinavia Hotel in Göteborg for two nights at the end of March 2007. Our accommodations were part of the package that Volvo provides when you take delivery of a car at their nearby factory.

Arriving early after a three segment long overnight series of flights from the US we had no problems in quickly obtaining a room even though it was fairly early in the morning. Our accommodations were on an upper floor overlooking one of the small streets in the back of the building. As such it was VERY quiet - enough so we were even able to get a few hours rest acclimating to the time zone difference.

The location couldn’t be better - in the centre of the city and directly across from Central Station. The weather was sunny and warm during our entire stay so we ended up walking everywhere - but the location nearby trams, the train station and nearby roads would most certainly be convenient in less than desirable weather conditions. Also one block away is the Nordstan Centre which is billed as Sweden's largest and most diverse shopping centre where shops are open daily (including Sunday) and we found a nice pub one evening for dinner and drinks.

The physical layout of the hotel provides for a large internal courtyard at least six stories high. One side has a nice bar and lounge area whilst the other side is where they serve breakfast. There is also a larger mezzanine dining area but we didn't have the chance to eat there. (See photos) Access to the lifts to the guest rooms was restricted to only those with room keys.

The breakfast was served buffet style and all you could eat. The variety of food and drink items was enormous to the point where we would only take a snack in the afternoon instead of lunch.

We were pleased to have a king size bed and a clean, modern surely newly refurbished room. We had no problems with the WiFi wireless Internet connectivity and made great use of it. The bath was also fresh and bright complete with numerous amenities. No shortage of water pressure here - great hot shower!

The entire staff of the hotel were great as well. All spoke fluent English without a problem. Check in and out was fast and courteous. And we also appreciated the tips on where to explore around the city - there is a lot to see within +/- 800 meters or so of the hotel (and even more via the bus and tram network).

Although the hotel was chosen for me as part of the Volvo Eu delivery package I would most certainly recommend this property to both business and leisure travelers.

“Beautiful hotel”

Radisson SAS Scandinavia Hotel

Short version: given that this hotel was the same price as many others for the night, I was very impressed. I walked in to see the vast central atrium/courtyard, over which all the internally-facing rooms have balconies, with low fountains and pools; glass elevators in the middle; the restaurant, bar, and a small cafe, all in the central area, giving an ambiance closer to a relaxed market square, than a hotel.

The room itself was also impressive (mine was a double); the decor was something you'd likely either love or hate - slightly 'off the wall', but again, it stood out from the usual hotel fare. Bathroom, etc. were all excellent, as I'd expect from Radissons, and the free WiFi access welcome.

Staff were friendly and efficient, food was good, and... I could not fault it in any way. Excellent!

“Great hotel!!!!!!!”

I was in Gothenburg for business and I booked this hotel even though I never stayed at Radisson before and I didn't expect much. Most Radissons in the US are dives and I expected this one to be as well. The moment I walked into the door I knew I could not have been more wrong about this hotel. The check in staff was very nice and they quickly checked me in. I took the nice glass elevator to the 3rd floor where my room was located. The room just blew me away and it was one of the nicest most modern hotel rooms I have ever been in. They even had my name on the TV when I came in and that was a nice added touch. Everything was great about the room, the bed, shower, work area etc etc etc. The hotel also had a great bar where everyone would meet after a hard day’s work. One thing about Sweden the tax on booze is absurd but what can you do? The restaurants served all types of food and I would recommend the Lasagna, BLT or the Cajun hamburger. The breakfast was included in our rate and it was huge and VERY good. The hotel location is right in the middle of everything and tram picks up right in front. Make sure if you get a taxi to have the front desk get it for you. My co workers and I made the mistake of hailing our own cab that ripped us off. If you are going to Gothenburg you HAVE TO stay at this hotel.
