“Terrific hotel, fabulous breakfast!”

We were worried it would be too far out but it was only five minutes to Sete Rios station (Sintra) and the Gulbenkian museum and a few minutes to Praca Espanha metro. For shoppers it was also a short walk to el Corte Ingles department store/supermarket/cafes) and we could walk through Edward VII park to the city. The breakfast was stupendous and included in the very cheap price; staff were pleasant at the taxi from the airport less than 10 Euros. Next door was the Green Apple veggie restaurant. The food all over Lisbon was terrific but the hotel was a steal. Thank you Trip Advisor!

“Good Hotel”

Hong Kong

I have just returned from staying at this hotel with my husband. We were celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary and wanted to try somewhere we had not been before. As we could not get a local flight direct to Lisbon we flew to Faro and used a hire car to drive up to Lisbon. On arriving there we drove round in circles (even though we had several maps) before we eventually decided to ask a taxi driver to show us the way as we followed in our car. We were on route for approximately 13 minutes and were only charged 7 Euro's! We later discovered the taxi's were really cheap and so used them quite often as the hotel is quite far from the city centre. This was not a problem as there are metro's within a few minutes walk from the hotel.
As it was rather late when we arrived at the hotel we decided to have a meal in the hotel's restaunant.......... DISASTER! It was absolutely horrible. We both ordered different soups as starters and when they came mine was tepid and actually had a skin on it. I was tempted to send it back but everyone knows what happens on taking that action. I decided to say nothing and looked forward to the next course which was equally disappointing. Needless to say we did not have another evening meal there. The breakfast on the other hand more than made up for the previous meal. There was plenty of choice and the staff informed us that they were about to start removing the food as the breakfast service was almost over allowing us to aquire any thing else that we wanted.
As far as the rest of the hotel was concerned it was good. The room was spotless and the bathroom needed nothing adding to it. I did however ask when booking, for a twin bedded room as I'm a light sleeper and we were given a double bed, not really a problem but not what I'd requested.
On the whole the staff were helpful and pleasant and I would recommend a stay there but maybe give the restaurant a miss in the evening!

“good-average hotel in average location for cheapy cheapy price!”

Sana Malhoa Hotel

Mar 30, 2007

I stayed at this hotel with my boyfriend for five nights in the end of march 2007. Our room was clean and modern and the bathroom was really stylish. Jacquizzi was cold but the steam and sauna were nice!

Anyhow the breakfast was good - lots of variation, the hot food was always luke warm though! My only complaint was as usual with the portuguese everyone was a bit moody - apart from the sweetie bell boy - who was helpful and chatty (but he wasn't portuguese!) It wouldn't kill them to smile! One morning the waitresses told us we had missed breakfast as it was half an hour ealier on a week day - they still let us have it but made us feel uncomfortable!

The hotel is a bit far out to be honest - would have been nice to stay in town, but yes the metro is round the corner - its just a bit depressing going under ground every morning for 20 mins although very convienent.

Over all good quality for money - but i think i would pay extra to stay somewhere central & maybe a bit more boutique if I went again!
oh they tried charging us the normal rate rather than the reduced rate that i found over the internet, I had to get quite cross before they acted over it but they apologised in the end and was sorted.

“Fabulous”

Sana Malhoa Hotel

If only all hotels were like this one! Clean, efficient, very friendly staff, great food, everything works!

It's all so simple when things go right, but so few hotels actually manage to achieve this. The Sana Malhoa, however, certainly does. What it does best in my opinion is to simply deliver what it promises. Spacious, functional room, good bar, great restaurant, cheap (75 euros), happy staff.

If you run a good hotel, you'll have happy clients and therefore happy staff. Well done Sana Maohoa, I'll definitely be back.

“Nice Hotel”

Sana Malhoa Hotel

My wife & I stayed at this hotel mid March 2007 for 5 nights, this being our first visit to Lisbon. Main desk polite when booking in, albeit a little distant but nonetheless professional. Hotel clean and decent matching candid photos posted by previous traveller. Room nice, approx same size as a UK Travel type hotel. Maid service attended daily and was as expected of a 4 star hotel. We did experience a problem with the minibar and noticed that the bill did not match our usage (which was only one bottle of water on first night). After this we did not use the minibar and provided reception with a stock list on a daily basis. The products in the minibar seemed to change on a regular basis and never matched the printed stock list provided on any of the day's that we stayed. The staff at reception were not particularly helpful with regard to this and seemed to find this normal practice. However, we did not pay the extras upon leaving so it's fair to say all was sorted eventually. Do check your minibar bill daily though (can be done on the TV). Breakfast was of good quality and plentiful, with a range of the type that you would expect on the continent, including hot. We did dine in at the hotel one night, a costly and general affair - nothing wrong with it but nothing to write home about either. Location is good for both the train station and the metro and both are equally as cheap and friendly to use. Really easy to pop down town for an evening meal and only a short walk to/from the hotel. To sum up - OK hotel as a base, service leans towards that of a three star hotel not four but decor/accomodation is certainly up to scratch. Would maybe try somewhere else for my money next time but wouldn't grumble if I HAD to stay there for any particular reason.
