I have stayed at this resort three times now and each time I have been very satisfied, hence my return visits. As there were six of us (3 couples) we have stayed in a three bedroom townhouse, which provides ample room for us. We choose 301 because of its location. The uninterrupted view of the Atlantic Ocean is spectacular by day and by night when we saw the lights of fishing boats out at sea and the moonlight. The house is comfortable, well furnished and well equipped. There is a DVD player and satellite television to keep up with the news. Central heating is installed which was a bonus for the chilly January evenings.
The 24 hour reception meant that we could arrive at anytime. The staff speak English and are very pleasant and helpful.
The saltwater swimming pool is enormous and has a childs section. Plenty of sunloungers and a snack bar adjacent to the pool.
It is not a lively resort, but not all of us want discos and bars. Built on a clifftop and close to parkland, it has a charm and atmosphere that I personally found very relaxing and peaceful. There is a path that runs along this stretch of coastline which is lovely for a walk to admire the sea views and see the wild flowers along the way.
Lots of restaurants in the area, as well as one on the resort. However, it wasn't open in January, probably because it was a very quiet time of the year for the whole area.
Several large, well known golf courses a short drive away. Luz with its sandy beach is just up the road. Lagos and all its amenities about ten minutes drive away. Two of my friend enjoyed fishing on the rock shoreline a few minutes walk from the house. Faro airport is about an hours drive away from Porto Dona Maria. Really you do need a car to get around, unless you just want to stay on the resort.
I will go to this resort again later in the year and would certainly reccommend it, if you want to get away from the maddenning crowds!
