Having been to Lagos numerous times without staying in the resort centre I was hugely surprised by Porta da Vila. The staff are excellent, always happy to undertake any requests you may have (Ordering taxis, etc) and staffed the pool bar well.
The pool area was clean, however a more vigerous clean of the pool floor would have been nice. Sun loungers, mats and umbrellas were excellent, and there was little in the way of music from the pool bar, you were simply allowed to relax.
Apartments were hugely spacious, spread across three floors. The lounge/kitchen area was comfortable, but as to be expected with self-catering properties, cooking facilities were limited. Bedrooms were large in size, with comfortable beds and good wardrobe space. The bathroom was decent, with a powerful shower that controlled temperature well.
The terrace roof was stunning, offering sea views and pleanty of sunlight throughout the day, however it was a little dirty upon arrival.
Negatives were rare, however the lack of air conditioning in our bedroom meant leaving windows open, and as our room overlooked a side road we were often woken early by traffic and nearby building work as a result. Furthermore we did not receive a change of bedsheets during our stay, and the maid was often a little hurried in her daily clean.
Two words of warning. The location of the apartments, and the large number of steps around them means it may be unsuitable for those with walking difficulties. Secondly, if you don't like seagulls then stay away, they're always around the walls overlooking the pool and make a right noise!!
Overall, a cracking place to stay, with fantastic rooms and only a 5 minute walk into the centre of Lagos. Also it's worth mentioning that the Porta da Vila has been fully renovated for the beginning of this season, and deals with many of the comments made in previous reviews.
