Just back from a weekend in Brussels and a stay at this landmark hotel. Yes, the lobby and public spaces are magnifacent. And yes, the rooms by contrast don't quite match up to the public spaces. But a weekend at the Metropole is a terrific bargain. I paid just over 100 Euros a night for a cheerful double room with an excellent bath and a very bountiful breakfast . The place was spotless and the service was exceptional--about a two minute wait for an ice delivery. The location is also very good-- easy walking distance to Grand Place and really anywhere else. I think the hotel suffers from its five star rating. While I am sure there are more commodious and more grandly furnished rooms in the hotel than my basic double, anyone expecting true luxury will be a tad disappointed. But if you are seeking a true travel bargain at a time when what your dollar is worth in Europe will put you in sticker shock at every turn, this is a true find. Also recommended is the wonderful Belga Queen restaurant not a block from the hotel as well at the chic and cheerful Lola in the wonderful Place Sablon.

I just returned from a three (3) night stay at the Metropole. The room was very well appointed, the staff courteous and efficient and the location perfect. In particular the concierge was so helpful. The breakfast buffet is great and offers a tremendous variety. Thanks to the entire staff. This was my first trip to Brussels and I am already looking forward to returning next year for the Christmas Market.

Myself and my wife stayed at the Metropole for 2 nights, 15 & 16 November 2004. While the hotel is very grand and I would't refuse it 5 star rating, I was very slightly disappointed on two issues - the room and the selection of cooked food for breakfast. And I only point these two issue up because I have stayed in 4 and 5 star hotels that provided better in both. The room was quite basic for a 5 star hotel but having said that it did have everything we needed. The bathroom was grand. In mentioning breakfast, while there was plenty of food available - hot and cold selections including lots of breads - the only hot food was bacon, sausages and either scrambled or boiled eggs. What more did I want? Well perhaps say fried tomatoes, fried eggs, waffles etc - just a bigger choice! The location of this hotel was excellent - metro/tram line right outside. The staff were very courteous and helpful.

In reality, I would give this hotel a 3.5. We got a GREAT deal and decided to stay at the Hotel Metropole while in Brussels. On the positive, the hotel offers a great location within walking distance to well-known restaurants and all of the important downtown tourist spots. We found the staff to be very courteous -- in fact, they actually bumped us up to a deluxe room at no additional charge. That said, the room itself was OK -- the decor was probably about 30 years old. You can tell this hotel was probably one of the nicest in Brussels several decades ago.
