“What a disappointment”

Radisson SAS Royal Brussels

3 of 5 stars

The hotel was booked with our Eurostar travel. There is no way this is a 5 star hotel, more like a 3 star. The public areas are nice, but the bar is dreadful with a strange smell that does not encourage you to linger. There are supposed to be bar snacks but if you don't want a club sandwich you are struggling. The restaurant looks inviting but the seats are dreadfully uncomfortable and we had to wait nearly an hour for our lunch even though the place was nearly empty. I do not eat meat and, because the menu never altered, I ate the same thing each time. Soup of the day was always leek and, like the rest of the food, was not very appealing. The check in staff and porters are pleasant enough, but the staff lack smiles and professionalism. The room was quite austere but the beds were wonderful, very comfortable. The lifts never worked properly and it was hit and miss whether we reached floor 5, sometimes we did, and then could not get out as the lift door did not open. People were coming out of the lifts ver cross indeed. As a retired travel agent I choose my hotels carefully - this time I made a mistake, and would certainly not stay there again.

“Nice hotel”

Radisson SAS Royal Brussels

Aug 29, 2006

Stayed at the hotel 18th-21st August. A really nice place, well situated for tourists and with good weekend rates.

A Royal Club room is excellent value as you get a higher standard of room as well as free extras such as soft drinks, in-house movies and breakfast.

Dont have a single complaint about the property.

“Just average”

We stayed at the Radisson SAS between August 6 and August 9. By no means is this a 5* hotel. It howevers does pass a decent 4* hotel.

Strong points
1. Our first room (404) had a broken closet door and we were promptly moved to another room (418), no questions asked.
2. The room quality is that of a decent Canadian or American hotel, with decent furniture, bedding, and bathroom amenities. The free wifi is very much appreciated.
3. Overall, I felt that the service was above average. The people at the reception were very accomodating (sent someone to room to uncork wine, brought up iron and ironing board, etc.).
4. The hotel is very well-situated in terms of the main sights (Grand Place) and the central train station in Brussels.
5. Booked for 3 nights for $99 CDN / night on expedia.ca. Regardless of what inconveniences there were, the price was magnificent.

Weak points
1. Currently renovating 7th floor which makes for a lot of noise between 0800 and 1800. The noise was unbearable to the point where sleeping in was not an option. Because of this inconvenience, we were reimursed for our parking expenses.
2. This is not the hotel's fault, but Brussels is just an average city, especially in comparison to Paris. This, to some extent, clouds one's view of how good a hotel may be.

Hope this helps. I am not sure how many better hotels there may be in Brussels, but if one gets a good rate at this hotel, it is worthwhile.

“Good hotel but not perfect”

Radisson SAS Royal Brussels

4 of 5 stars
New York City, New York
Aug 22, 2006

The Radisson Brussels is a very nice hotel in a good location. The staff were extremely helpful from check in to check out, as I was part of a group hosting a meeting in their conference space. All our requests were handled professionally and promptly.

The rooms were not five star, but of a reasonable size and the bathrooms were nice. Breakfast at the hotel is good, and the courtyard/lobby is really nice, but expensive. On the downside there is only one computer for use if you dont have a laptop, and its sitting literally right next door to the front door.

Overall though Radisson is one of the better business hotels I've stayed at in Brussels. While not perfect for meetings at the European Commission, it has a great location near the Grand Place and central Brussels.

“Nice enough, don't expect 5 star!”

Radisson SAS Royal Brussels

4 of 5 stars
bristol
Aug 17, 2006

The hotel looks 5 star on arrival, but I would say it is more 3 or 4 star.
It seems that rooms are allocated on arrival as I had booked a smoking, king room, but told they didn't have that, but there was a no smoking king room instead. And the air conditioning was broken and being fixed!
The staff were very friendly and helpful, our room was nice and comfortable. Very close to the Grand Place and restaurants. The free wi fi was excellent.
I would recommend this hotel, but don't expect 5 star!
