“A bit disappointed”

Bellevue Hotel

3 of 5 stars

Jul 16, 2008

Having read the good reviews, we were looking forward to our stay. The best thing about the Bellevue is it's location, 5 minutes from Central Station. The rooms are clean & light, and the staff were helpful. However, the standard of the room is about the same as a Travel Inn or Travelodge, but at £115 without breakfast, not cheap. We booked a "Queen bedroom", but the bed was a standard double. When we queried it, we were told those were the biggest beds they had. The room itself was pretty small, with very limited storage space, particularly in the bathroom. No tea/coffee making facilities.

“Modern room, close to train station”

My husband and I stayed here for three nights from 7/1-7/4 as part of our honeymoon. We arrived by train and took a taxi to the hotel, not realizing it is literally right across the street from the train station, about a 3 minute walk. We had a room on the 1st floor with a view of other rooms. The hotel has about 6 or 7 floors, all with long, narrow hallways and long and narrow rooms. The bed and pillows were comfortable, the room has AC and the staff was friendly and helpful. The bathroom was a bit strange since the shower had no threshold separating it from the toilet or sink area, which means that the water goes all over the floor. Even with the shower curtain pulled around you, the water seems to still seep out and wet half the bathroom floor. The breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, sausage, bacon, mini pancakes, toast, croissants, yogurt, cereal, deli meats and cheeses and fruit. There is free Wi-Fi internet access in the room. The hotel is within walking distance to some main attractions such as the red-light district and Anne Frank House, shopping and restaurants, but far away from Vondel Park and some other attractions. Another small issue to note is that the light switches are at the head of the bed, so if you’re sitting up watching TV, you can easily hit the light switches on and off. I would also recommend asking for a room away from the elevator. Our room wasn’t near it, but you could easily hear the TV in those rooms while you’re waiting for the elevator and I’m sure they could hear people talking and the doors opening and closing all night. Our room had a connecting door to the neighboring room and we could hear the TV. Overall it was a decent stay, but we’d probably stay at a more centralized hotel if we find ourselves back in Amsterdam.

“Okay, but expensive for what it was”

Bellevue Hotel

Jul 2, 2008

The Bellevue is well positioned near to the main train station, however at nearly £100 per night without breakfast, it was not good value at all. The first night, we were put in a smoking room at the bottom of an internal well and it was dark, noisy and small. They did move us the next day to a lighter, non-smoking room, but it was small still.
The staff were very polite and the room was clean, but I feel that it was a lot of money for such a small, and mediocre room.

“Missed the coffee maker”

Bellevue Hotel

This hotel is in a perfect location, I don't know Amsterdam very well but being so close to the central train station always allowed me to find my way back to the hotel - the rooms are clean and neat, but they are quite small. I enjoyed the access to the outside (Building is three sided with a rooftop walk way on the fourth side to get around to the eleveator) - did miss a coffee maker, none provided. The staff was absolutely delightful and never tired of questions and gave perfect guidance and assistance on every topic. Was only in AMS for one night, and would stay here again!

“Buyer Beware!”

Bellevue Hotel

My wife and I travel quite alot and always use trip advisor as our guide to finding a great hotel as other visitors views are a fantastic tool to prepare a good trip and everytime this has been the case. This particular hotel rate's highly amongst fellow 'trip advisors' reviews, so we booked this hotel and confirmed all the details through our agent. On arrival at the hotel we were advised our booking was cancelled, however upon calling our agent 'Ebookers' we were advised the booking was NOT cancelled. Therefore the hotel offered us the sister hotel 'Avenue Hotel' which is supposed to be of 'equal standard', believe me it isn't ( full review posted on the Avenue Hotel) . We believe this hotel the 'Belle Vue' realise it's popularity and double book rooms so to fill up it's sub-standard sister hotel. Buyer beware, you may not be buying a room this hotel when you book.
