After completing our tour of the Alps via the Glacier Express (highly recommended), we wanted a hotel convenient to the train station for we had an early departure the next day for the US. Well, there is no hotel more convenient than this one: walk out the front door (don't get run over by the trams) and the train station (Zurich Main) is right there.
Check-in was smooth. We went up to the room, and it was obviously a smoking room. I requested and they immediately moved us to a non-smoking room. The room was small, but well-appointed. Very clean and elegant.
If I had been willing to stay a bit further away from the train station, I'm sure there are hotels of similar quality for less price. For $560/night, I was not impressed and left feeling I had overpaid. I know some of this is the dollar's fault, however, we have stayed in similar quality hotels in Europe for far less money.
Breakfast comes with the rate. However, we had to leave at 6am, the time when breakfast (in-room or in the restaurant) starts. I requested in-room at 5:30 and they said "no." At $560/night, the response to this simple request should should have been a "yes." All I wanted was a cup of coffee and a croissant. They indicated that a table with OJ, coffee, and croissants would be available in the lobby before six. The only cups they had were regular porcelain cups and saucers and no "to go" cups. The OJ was warm and very little left. We just left.
Room service is extraordinarily expensive, with a club sandwich at $42 dollars. Not to worry, there are many restaurants within walking distance that are a far better value.
For price/value considerations, I will bypass the convenience of this hotel to the train station and find another place to stay the next time we go to Zurich.
