“Not as impressive as I had hoped.”

Schweizerhof Hotel Zurich

3 of 5 stars
Atlanta, Georgia
Mar 15, 2008

After completing our tour of the Alps via the Glacier Express (highly recommended), we wanted a hotel convenient to the train station for we had an early departure the next day for the US. Well, there is no hotel more convenient than this one: walk out the front door (don't get run over by the trams) and the train station (Zurich Main) is right there.

Check-in was smooth. We went up to the room, and it was obviously a smoking room. I requested and they immediately moved us to a non-smoking room. The room was small, but well-appointed. Very clean and elegant.

If I had been willing to stay a bit further away from the train station, I'm sure there are hotels of similar quality for less price. For $560/night, I was not impressed and left feeling I had overpaid. I know some of this is the dollar's fault, however, we have stayed in similar quality hotels in Europe for far less money.

Breakfast comes with the rate. However, we had to leave at 6am, the time when breakfast (in-room or in the restaurant) starts. I requested in-room at 5:30 and they said "no." At $560/night, the response to this simple request should should have been a "yes." All I wanted was a cup of coffee and a croissant. They indicated that a table with OJ, coffee, and croissants would be available in the lobby before six. The only cups they had were regular porcelain cups and saucers and no "to go" cups. The OJ was warm and very little left. We just left.

Room service is extraordinarily expensive, with a club sandwich at $42 dollars. Not to worry, there are many restaurants within walking distance that are a far better value.

For price/value considerations, I will bypass the convenience of this hotel to the train station and find another place to stay the next time we go to Zurich.

“So Convenient”

Schweizerhof Hotel Zurich

5 of 5 stars

This hotel deserves all the good comments it gets, it is in a superb location right in the centre of everything just opposite the train station and round the corner the main shopping street which leads to the lake. It is not Hugely luxurious (it is not crap either) it combine luxury without too much fuss and it does look good and feel good; but the highlight above all things is the staff and the overall attitude to customers.
this is in that way a very old fashion hotel where customers are still considered the most important thing!!! people this is rare today.
nothing in this hotel is too much effort, even when i wanted to be ironed a shirt and the laundry was closed they have provided me an iron board and iron brought it in the room opened it and set it up for me! i have asked down at recepiton for a taxi to go to the opera house and the receptionist went out got a taxi told him where we wanted to go and without a word to the taxidriver we got there! this was really handy as i dont speak german! when we got back the room was ready for bed time (like in any good hotel) there were chocolates on the pillow and fresh fruit with palates and knives on the table in the sitting area, and all complimentary like tea and coffee in the room. the champagne breakfast was also included and the staff was paying maniacal attantion to details.
So i can definetly say the all stay was a total relaxed and pleasant experience, Zurich is a great place so i strongly recommend this hotel to anyone who wishes to stay in Zurich teated like a kind without spending quite as much. (please bare in mind i have been at the Baur au lac and baur en ville and the service is comparable to this hotel only it costed more then half the price, which made me think a lot)

“Outstanding! The Only Place to Stay In Zurich”

Schweizerhof Hotel Zurich

I spend in excess of 150 nights a year in 4-5* hotels all over Europe, and this hotel deserves special mention.

The hotel is magnificent and I experienced fantastic stay. I stayed for over a month in late 2007 with four colleagues. As soon as I walked in the door I felt relaxed.

I requested a room on the Bahnhofstrasse and I had a good view of the main street and was pleased to find the room had triple glazing so the noise did not affect my sleep.

The rooms are large, clean, and comfortable. Beds are nice and the pillows are of a higher than usual standard that are normally found in hotels. Proper quilts with a decent tog.

The reason the Schweizerhof is my only choice in Zurich is due to the little touches:
• An electronically adjustable bed
• Plasma TV and DVD player
• Fresh fruit in the corridors
• Reciprocal arrangement with a near by Holmes Place gym
• A knowledgeable concierge who remembered my name every time I wanted a restaurant reservation
• A fast and careful dry cleaning service
• An above average restaurant with an extremely knowledgeable Maitre d’
• Arranging complimentary drinks at a restaurant on our last night

Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone. It is very close to the train station and is on the main shopping street. Friendly staff, good service and clean comfortable rooms- perfect hotel in Zurich.

“Hard to beat!”

From the moment we walked in the door we felt the warmth and comfort of this superb establishment. Having arrived on an early flight (8am) we had no expectation of an early check in but were immediately invited to go and enjoy breakfast while they organised our room. What a way to start a holiday – the breakfasts were sublime with very elegant surroundings, serving Mumms champagne, freshly squeezed OJ and eggs cooked to order.

Although our room wasn’t ready when we finished breakfast, we were advised it would be ready by 11am (normal check-in 2pm), so we went for a walk to the lake. By the time we returned our room was ready, our luggage had already been taken to the room and we were given a small gift (Swarovski crystal key ring) to compensate for the construction work going on outside, along with a voucher for their restaurant.

The room was a good size by Zurich standards, immaculately clean, well laid out with very comfortable beds. We ate at the restaurant both nights of our stay and while it was expensive, it was classy and the food was of a good standard.

The location of the Schweizerhof is hard to beat. Located directly opposite the train station (with direct access to the airport), and at the foot of Bahnhofstrasse with fantastic tram connections as well.

The service throughout our stay was impeccable and very hospitable. Hard to beat!

“Excellent Location, very efficient staff”

Schweizerhof Hotel Zurich

We recently spent one night at this hotel. The staff at this hotel are exceptional and really go out of their way to assist in any way they can. Welcome drinks on arrival - while we checked in (very nice touch, after a long drive).

During the evening, asked for an extra blanket and within two minutes it was delivered and my bed was remade. I was also given a few chocolates by the lovely house keeping lady.

The room service food was very good, and the champagne breakfast was a real treat. I would definetly recommend this hotel when staying in Zurich.

The hotel is located at the top of the Bahnhofstrasse, where you will find countless shopping opportunities. By the way, do have lunch at Zeughauskeller at 28A Bahnhofstrasse. The hearty swiss food and different beers are excellent!
