“Nice clean room but gonna pay for internet”

Hotel Interlaken

3 of 5 stars
Singapore
May 13, 2008

Just left the hotel a couple of days ago.

A 10 mins walk from interlaken ost train station, so location ws good. It was near to shopping street along howeg and the casino is nearby.

Overall hotel is quite nicely decorated and staff was pleansant but not exceptional friendly and helpful.

Room was nice and clean but very small. There was no air-con in the room so you would need to open the window for cool wind. But at times we feel stuffy. Toilet has a bath tub and spacious, which is the plus of this room. Breakfast was normal but added surprise of steamed rice as there are plenty of chinese and japanese in interlaken.

What was not good in my opinion is the internet is chargeable if you wish to use and you need a credit card for it. It deprived the guest of some web surfing activities at night when the town is practically quiet after 9pm.

Overall it is still a functional place to stay for a night or 2 with good location.

“Functional hotel - old fashioned rooms”

Hotel Interlaken

3 of 5 stars
Switzerland
Apr 9, 2008

We usually stay at the Metropole hotel in Interlaken, but for a change we choose this hotel because it looked nice from outside ( I have been often in Interlaken and walked on the main street in front of the hotel). I had to be in the area for business and stayed one night there with my wife and daughter. The building was originally part of the monastery, which is located behind the building and hosts now the offices of the local administration. The reception areas and restaurants have been completely renovated. Our room looked a little bit tired, (the hotel brochure mentioned that all rooms had been renovated in 1984-1985) and rather dull. The room was really not that clean and there was a smell of mould (carpet). We stayed in a room facing the street and we did not hear at all the bells of the church just behind the hotel, as some other reviewers mentioned who stayed in the back. The windows were really soundproof and we did not hear the traffic. This might be different in the summer, because there is no A/C. Breakfast was OK -self-service, even for the coffee that one has to get from a coffee machine. There was one girl to handle the breakfast room and the poor girl was running because she could not cope with the workload. This set up would be more of a 3 star hotel type service. There is a very small parking - free of charge - belonging to the hotel. The receptionists were kind and professional.

The problem in Interlaken is the restaurants, which in my experience, are expensive (tourist resort) and disappointing. An alternative is the brasserie and the attached italian restaurant of the 5star Victoria Jungfrau hotel, which is a 5 minute walk. These restaurants offer very good quality food. The menu is rather limited but the service is great and one has the opportunity to have lunch or dinner in a beautiful Jugendstil room.

“Fantastic Easter break”

Hotel Interlaken

Mar 28, 2008

My wife and I decided on Interlaken for our Easter Break. After having an extremely trouble-free journey via London City Airport to Zurich and then by the most punctual Swiss Railways, the Hotel Interlaken was a very short walk from the railway station.
We arrived with a very warm welcome and our room was well presented, had a very powerful shower and included two doors which opened to a small balcony. Unfortunately our first view included very low clouds and rain, however, the following day started bright and sunny with a wonderfully blue sky...and of course, views of the Bernese Oberland towering above us.
The hotel itself was very comfortable and also had a great restaurant. The choice of evening menu was extensive - and included a complete Chinese menu. The food was well cooked and presented. A compliment to the kitchen staff.
Breakfast was extensive and relaxed.
We would certainly return to this hotel. It had a good warm feeling from the moment we walked in the door. Well done Hotel Interlaken and thanks for a great Easter break!

“Historic Hotel, Great Location, Helpful Staff”

Hotel Interlaken

5 of 5 stars
San Francisco

We had to check into Hotel Interlaken a day early, and late in the evening, and the staff was extremely helpful, honoring our early-booking rate for the next night, and spending 15 minutes with us to plan our next day in Interlaken. The hotel dates from 1100, but feels quite modern inside, and the rooms are small but comfortable (and it was nice to have 3 choices of English speaking channels for news while I got ready in the morning). It is an easy 5 minute walk from the Interlaken Ost train station if you are coming by train or if you want to do the Jungfraujoch/"top of europe" train trip. Hotel staff is helpful in all ways; excellent breakfast with lots of hot and cold choices. If you go at Christmas--very well decorated!

“Fabulous Experience not to be missed ...”

Hotel Interlaken

We booked this hotel through Interlaken Tourism as a package incorporating accommodation and a Top of Europe trip up to Jungfraujoch. When we arrived we were enormously surprised to be shown to a suite (room 406). The french doors opened onto a small private patio which looked out onto a magnificent view of the Alps, the local cathedral and Interlaken palace. The room was spectacularly furnished with orignal Victorian antiques including paintings. The hotel personnel bent over backward to be of assistance. The breakfast consisted of an enormous buffet. The hotel is located at the base of the Swiss Alps and on the main road in Interlaken. It is situated within metres from the shopping area and other local attractions including the cable car. The train station is conveniently located a five minute walk away - especially necessary for the Jungfraujoch trip. All in all a wonderful experience unsurpassed in Europe!
