“Nice old building”

Hotel Royal - St. Georges

Interlaken is very quiet during winter, the hotel location is still central enough (on the main park) so that you can walk to all the restaurants. I've stayed there a couple of times and the rooms are very large, clean, but a bit oldish.

The building has a nice architecture both outside and inside. The only thing that I really didn't like was the breakfast, I just doesn't fit with the style of the hotel (it's more a 1 star breakfast than what you would expect here).

“Very early mornings”

My wife and I stayed for a week at the hotel. As it was a special occasion for us we booked a superior room and were assigned room 104, at the front of the hotel, overlooking the main entrance - mistake! The room itself was very nice, art nouveau in style, spacious, with a large bathroom. French windows from the bedroom gave access to a large communal balcony which continued along the fronts of approx 5 bedrooms. The first thing that anyone staying here should realise is that this hotel is very very firmly on the coach tour circuit and thus has almost daily arrivals and departures of tours, with the departures usually taking place about 7am. On our 1st night there was a local wedding reception taking place in the hotel. We were awoken at 1.30am by shouting and people conversing in loud voices outside the front door as they were leaving. We were then awoken at 3am by the same. The following morning I complained & the only response from Reception was that they did request wedding guests not to congregate outside, unfortunately this wasn't having much effect.
On a further 2 occasions that week we were awoken between 6.30am and 7am by people from tour coaches leaving the hotel.
On the 1st occasion some Orientals were on the communal balcony, right outside our windows, jabbering away in loud voices and taking photos of each other. On the second occasion another group of coach tour guests were banging on the windows next door to awaken guests on their tour who had obviously overslept. In addition to all that, there is a church approx 300yds away on which the clock chimes loudly every 15 minutes throughout the day and all night. It has to be said that the hotel is very conveniently located for local ameneties and is ideally situated to sightsee in the area, however I probably would find a quieter hotel next time, when I return to what can only be described as a fantastically beautiful part of Europe. If of course you are part of a coach tour the noise would probably not be a problem, as you would probably be the problem

“Caution with children”

Hotel Royal - St. Georges

We would not stay there again. We had 3 children and the hotel has only 3 interconecting rooms which we later found out were suites. They would not give them to us, my wife and me ended sleeping in different rooms as we did not want the children to be alone.

The breakfast was a dissapointment.
Staff was discourteous

“Fantastic Area and Hotel”

The Royal St. Georges is a great place to call home while in Interlaken. Interlaken is a great location for a stay in Switzerland, easy to hop on a train and get to a lot of other spectacular places. Our room was huge compared to everywhere else we stayed in Europe and the breakfast was quite nice (and included in the price of our room). Only one drawback I can think of- the double bed was actually two twin beds and a bit uncomfortable.

“Incredible Hotel”

Hotel Royal - St. Georges

Who we are: Mother (60 years old) and daughter (26 years old), traveling around Switzerland to celebrate a birthday. We are staunch non-smokers.

What we are looking for: A quiet place to stay, good food and great value for our money. Any 'luxuries' are much appreciated.

What we got: I couldn't say enough about the Hotel Royal- St. George’s. If you stay in the main part of the hotel (because it's actually two hotels in one), you are treated to a magnificent array of luxury. Each room is different but all offer splendid, Victorian decoration and comfortable beds.

The room: The room we stayed in was a corner suite facing the Jungfrau. We had two beds with royal linens and wonderful pillows, 3 balconies, a living room/ parlor, an enormous bathroom with the most heavenly bath tub, a television, a mini-bar and wonderful Victorian decorations. The richness and quality of the decor is just fabulous. We stayed there for 6 nights during my mother's 60th birthday and we had the time of our lives.

The food: Breakfast is spectacular and the dining area is nothing short of lovely. The room itself is all glass windows and has little lamps and candles by each table with lovely garden flowers. The breakfast offered is typically swiss (bread, jam, cheese, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, etc.) but eggs and American breakfasts are also available if you choose. To our great pleasure, the dining room was non-smoking. Dinner is served every night and the meal that we had was fabulous and very reasonably priced.

The spa: Swiss hotels are very interested in making sure your body is well relaxed while you stay in their hotel. The Royal St. George’s is no exception. On the top floor, there is a quaint spa with two Jacuzzis, a wonderful steam bath and a sauna with a lovely view. There is a quiet area in the upstairs area for reading or exercising and everything is kept impeccably clean.

The location: Completely central to everything you'd need in Interlaken. The hotel is located on the main street but just at the tail end of the 'central part' so everything is 5 minutes walking distance and you don't get the noise of the traffic and people. Restaurants are all around and there is a Coop (grocery store) very near by.
The extras: One thing that is unavoidable in Switzerland and especially in Interlaken, is large tour groups. Tourists come in by the busload and this is unavoidable wherever you stay in Interlaken (we've been to Interlaken many times before). The Royal St-Georges does something that I have never seen another hotel do in Switzerland- they keep the large tour groups completely separate from the hotel guests that stay as a couple or as a family. The result works out fabulously. The tours have their own banquet style room with mosaics painted on the ceiling to enjoy all their meals and the tourists traveling in twos, threes or fours are in the main bar or in the dining area. In other hotels, my mom and I felt overwhelmed when tour groups would come in but at the Royal St. George’s, we never felt that way. The only time we saw the tour groups was in the lobby.

Parking: Parking is not a problem at the hotel and is free of charge.

The conclusion: The hotel was fabulously decorated, the room was among the most spacious and comfortable that we have eve stayed in, the food was terrific and the hotel was impeccably clean. The value that the Royal St. George’s offers is worth more than I can express. After leaving, we were sad to stay in other equally priced hotels, wishing we had spent just one more night at the Royal St. George’s.
