We stayed for 2 nights with our 2 children and had a great time. We stayed in 2 interconnecting rooms which had everything we needed and were surprisingly spacious. You could probably have squeezed the children in as well but as they are getting older we opted for the second room and certainly enjoyed it better that way! All very clean and comfortable. However I understood what previous reviewers meant about the sterile almost clinical atmosphere - the hallways mostly. This did not affect our enjoyment of the hotel, indeed given the choice I would rather it smelt over clean than a bit rancid - and I'm sure we've all stayed in hotels like that! Although it probably had all the facilities to make it a 4/5 star hotel, I agree that it did not really feel like one. But again, that didn't get in the way and certainly everything was there. We got a good rate on the Radisson web-site and then firmed it up by telephone with the hotel direct re interconnecting rooms etc. They were very helpful but it had to be done that way as they were unable to match internet rates.
The best thing about the hotel is its location. It really is minutes walk from the centre, and has trams running right outside the door. The mobility pass was great and having free transport throughout a really great saving. The breakfast is plentiful and has something for everyone. The staff were very helpful and even made the children hot chocolates. The hotel pool was really good fun - a bit like a 70s nightclub feel all red and yellow but a great swim and a decent size. The children can swim on their own aged 12 and up which is also good.
We took the no 6 tram along to the Foundation Bayler art gallery which was a short ride away and really the most fabulous collection of modern art we've seen for a while. Go on a Monday and its half price which represents a good saving. Also recommend the ferry ride accross the river reviewed already. Its quick but fun and very cheap.
I would recommend the hotel and certainly stay there again. Try and get a good rate on the internet though, and definitely get a rate with breakfast included as its CHF27 otherwise and who wants to pay that?
Basel is lovely - well worth a visit.
