Once we attuned ourselves to the fun of following route signs without route numbers, and thus driving around in Tuscany/Umbria, finding this agriturismo inn was not too hard. Once we found it (as stated on its web site, 3 km down a rural dirt-gravel road, which in turn is perhaps 5-10 minutes west of S. Gimignano), we started smiling, and pretty much kept that up for the time we were there, though our time there was too short. This place had a very special and wonderful feel: we would recommend staying at least 4 days, if not a week. Two British couples we met there were each staying "a fortnight," and also enjoying themselves there.
The main host we encountered was Andrea, a very helpful gentleman with good English. The inn has 2 separate "common rooms" for evening sitting. The dining room is indoor or outdoor, as you choose (virtually everyone ate outdoors during our stay), and overlooks the inn's fields and crops. The food is very good, as "advertised." Andrea told us that they grow the grapes for their own house wine, and much of the fruit for "the village," which he laughingly defined as anyplace there are 3 homes and 1 church. Breakfast is very nice, and the dinners were very good, too, with traditional Tuscan recipes, some of which we probably would not have tried on our own (they were really good, though).
We (2 parents, an 18 yr old and a 15 yr old) had requested a "family suite," which turned out to be a very nicely appointed and very clean 2-room suite. The kids slept well on good sofa-beds (twins) in the "living" room. The remarkable quiet of the countryside helped everyone sleep, actually. The bathroom was clean and new. The room had a large balcony with several chairs and a table for relaxing. The windows had screens, and the lack of a/c was no problem, even in mid-80F (25-30C) heat, due to the thick walls and nice breezes. Our video-frenzied kids were happy just to hang out, listen to their iPods or the Casolare's mostly-classical CD collection on its stereo (which is also used during dinner -- one night my son chose the Chopin for background). They even played several games of chess together! (Uncharacteristically.) This place is truly a getaway worth enjoying. We'd love the opportunity to visit again.
