My fiancé and I stayed at the Hotel Europa in December 2007 and I’m sorry it’s taken me this long to write a review of this fantastic hotel.
We toured Rome, Sorrento, Florence, Venice, Paris and London on this trip – and have done lots of travel on previous occasions and this has been one of my favourites.
The hotel’s location to the Accademia, Duomo and the Uffizi made it ideal for our quick trip (2 nights) in Florence, but the size and amenities of the room made me wish I were staying longer.
We stayed in the Dante Suite and had a great view of the Duomo dome and as it overlooked a courtyard it was very quite. This room was absolutely HUGE!! We had a big king bed, writing desk, mini refrigerator, wardrobe and television. There were plenty of heaters in the room. The bathroom was also big – large bath with shower over it. Bidet, toilet, basin as well as a heated towel rack which was the best! The bathroom was exceptionally clean and the furnishings in the bedroom were in a Florentine style. The windows had both shutters and black-out drapes, so if you like it dark – this is great.
Breakfasts in the morning were great and served with a smile by Gassim (who always remembered my name!)– coffee was good, nice juice, toast, fruit, etc.
Aside from an amazing room (and it really was brilliant), the best thing about this hotel is the people. We were warmly greeted by Miriam after arriving via a 3 hour train trip. She was so welcoming and lovely – she personally showed us to our rooms and gave us maps, circling recommended restaurants and advising us on the best times to go to the museums, etc.
I really can’t believe this is only a 2 star hotel. The location, cleanliness, friendliness and style just make it so much more.
Admittedly, Florence was not my favourite of the Italian cities we visited, but the Hotel Europa really was a beautiful place to stay and the best of our trip. Thank you so much Miriam and Gassim!
