We had planned a very special 12 day holiday in Tuscany – it was special because it included a 5 day stay in Florence where we were getting married on 14th May at the Palazzo Vecchio (we are from the U.K.).

We wanted a quality family-run hotel (as opposed to a “chain” hotel) that was very central, with local character and at a reasonable price. The Hotel Alessandra fulfilled all these objectives – and for us it was the perfect romantic base for our stay.

It is located on a quiet street a short walking distance from the Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi, and (in our case) a short ride by horse and carriage to the Palazzo Vecchio on our big day.

Because we were getting married, we wanted our stay to be extra special, so we stayed in the Baccio Suite, with views to the river, which comprised a large lounge, large bedroom and a small balcony with table and chairs where it was great to relax after a day of sightseeing in Florence.

The breakfasts were great both in quality and quantity.

Andrea and Monti were amazing and went out of their way to be helpful in every way possible – for instance, arranging reservations at museums and recommending restaurants and other establishments. Such genuine and fantastic customer service is rare these days.

We would recommend the Hotel Alessandra to everyone with the exception of people who have great difficulty walking. As you enter the hotel, you need to walk up a short flight of stairs at which point you can use a small lift to take yourself and your luggage up to the hotel. For most relatively fit people, this will not be a problem.

Our stay at the Hotel Alessandra was absolutely wonderful and whenever we return to Florence in the future, it is the only place that we will stay. If you want a quality family-run hotel in Florence that is central, where you are treated as a welcome individual, that has great character at a very reasonable price, then the Hotel Alessandra ticks all the boxes. We stayed 2 nights at the Hotel Alessandra & really enjoyed our stay. Really great service & a charming hotel. Very comfortable room with a spacious bathroom. They upgraded our room to a canal view without a request, which was a nice surprise. The breakfast was nice, too - great service, decent selection, & great coffee. The hotel is very close to the major tourist attractions, museums, etc. It's about a 5 min walk to the Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio, etc. They also held our luggage after checking out so we could spend the day touring without our bags.

Only downers...you have to pay for internet access (30min increments) & the entrance is awkward b/c you have to be buzzed in, then you carry your luggage up a flight of stairs to what has to be the smallest elevator in history. We had to make 2 trips, 1 adult & 1 roll-behind each trip. Pretty small complaints considering the location & quality of the hotel. Would definitely stay here again & highly recommend it.

Perfect location near the Ponte Vecchio & shopping. We were upgraded to a junior suite at a nominal charge and had a fantastic view of the river and even had a sitting room! The hotel staff , especially Monte, was always very friendly and attentive to our requests. When we left on a train to Milan, my daughter realized she left some clothes in the closet. Andrea went out of his way to mail them back to us in the States and even e-mailed us with the information. We had such a wonderful experience and hope to return in the future.

This is an excellent choice for a reasonably priced hotel in Florence. The location could not be better...it's just a minute from the Ponte Vecchio and the Pitti Palace and is very close to the Uffizi Gallery and numerous other attractions. All members of the staff speak flawless English and could not have been more helpful or pleasant. They even booked my reservations for some of the galleries in advance. The room was small but quite comfortable and quiet with a nice bathroom. Breakfast was also quite good. Highly recommended.
