My husband and I have celebrated the anniversary of our honeymoon in Florence every May for the past 5 years at the Hotel Alessandra. The hotel has everything going for it; location, (within half a minute to the Ponte Vecchio and 3 minutes to the Uffizzi Gallery,) charm , (an ancient palazzo with high, high, ceilings, enormous windows and decorated with taste,) friendly and loving owners and staff ( who bend over backwards to help, give advice, organize tickets to events and make reservations to incredible restaurants) generous breakfast (included) in a sunny yellow room with starched linens and welcoming atmosphere and last but not least, economical. The tiny drawback to those who are out -of -shape or have a disability is the staircase up to the elevator. We highly recommend this hotel for those seeking charm and character at a reasonable price in the very heart of the city.

Hotel Alessandra was wonderful place to stay. The location was very central to the many popular Florence tourist sites (Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi, and Accademia Gallery). The price was reasonable and the service was delightful. We chose a double room with private bath. The room was old and simple but suited us for the small amount of time we were in there.

The entire hotel staff were caring and wonderful people. Andrea, in particular, was very attentive to our needs and truly cared about us. He helped us with all our questions and reservations. You can definitely tell this is a family owned hotel.

The hotel is located on the 3rd floor. There is a "lift" but only after you go up about 20 steps. Several bags of luggage can be an issue, but also manageable (especially after already lugging it all around Italy!) The continental breakfast was very nice with a variety of choices. I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel, and would stay again!

Found through Rick Steves. While the initial few minutes -- finding the right buzzer, climbing five flights of stairs with 50-pound bags, didn't set me up for the best experience, this 16th-century building was incredible. It felt like a great authentic experience staying in these ancient but stylish rooms with high ceiling and lovely views. The elevator is tiny -- not more than one person with luggage -- but after finding our room at the end of a cozy, intimate maze, we could not have been more pleased. It was amazing, pure and simple. The slightest complaint we can muster is about noise, which is certainly typical for a building this age which creaks and echoes into oblivion, but it could get somewhat noisy from the nearby street or other people traffic in the hotel.

We stayed in Florence for two nights and had a great stay at Hotel Alessandra. They had easy, detailed directions on the website from the train station to their hotel. The room was very large and gave us plenty of room to spread out. Location, location, location, we were two blocks from the Ponte Vecchio and it was easy to walk everywhere. The staff was very helpful and attentive. We would stay there again without hesitation.
Note the hotel is up several flights of stairs; there is a small elevator after the first set of steps.
