“A Perfect B&B”

Ca' San Rocco

5 of 5 stars
Brooklyn, NY
Jun 19, 2008

For my 8 days in Venice, I stayed at the wonderful Ca' San Rocco B&B. It's about a five-minute walk from the main train station, or from the vaporetto stop at Piazzale Roma or at San Tomas.

Ca' San Rocco is tucked away on a quiet alley (not on a canal) and has a lovely gated private entrance that leads to a garden and small patio. My room on the second floor (walk-up) was bright and spotless, furnished with Victorian pieces and a large, comfortable bed. I had a lovely view of a private garden. Note: Bring earplugs if you don't want to be awakened by birds starting their day at about 5:30; then again, that's not a bad way to wake up.

The B&B serves a standard continental breakfast on a delightful outdoor terrace and offers a nice selection of tea. You're likely to become addicted to Nutella sandwiches while you're here.

Ca' San Rocco is not inexpensive at all, but nothing in Venice is, so I'd recommend it for its location, cleanliness, charm, and spacious rooms.

Note: If you stay here, make sure to print out and bring the map the hotel's website provides; it's next to impossible to find without it.

“Highly recommended”

Ca' San Rocco

This is a lovely place to stay. It is only about five minutes from the bus station but is in a quiet residential area with views over a beautiful garden. Our room was by far the largest we have had in Venice, with a good sized bathroom. Everything was beautifully clean and there was plenty of storage space plus a table and chairs by the large window so we could look out at the view. We were not too sure about the efficiency of the air conditioning but everything else was perfect.

Breakfast was served on a flowery terrace with views over the garden. We were offered a choice of coffee and were very pleased with the selection of cold meat, cheese, cereal, yoghurt, breads, cakes and, as usual in Italy it seems, tinned fruit. I wouldn't recommend the juice though!

The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay and we liked the fact that we were given our own keys to use when reception was closed.

We particularly like this part of Venice which has a good range of shops and restaurants but is much less busy than San Marco.
We will definitely go back to this hotel and would recommend it to anyone although it would be difficult for visitors with disabilities as there is no lift.

“Great location”

Ca' San Rocco

Apr 13, 2008

We stayed here for nearly a week in March. Once we'd found the place, we were very impressed. (Even with a map with directions we got a bit lost)! Once we had found our bearings we were fine.
The b&b is about 10 to 15 minutes walk from the Rialto Bridge & St Marks Square. On the way to the Rialto Bridge, there are quite a few signs on the walls telling you which direction to go in, which is helpful if you get a bit lost.
The b&b was very clean & the buffet breakfast was delicious. Lots to eat & a big range of teas. Although it was quite central, it was quiet at night time.(Apart from people occasionally clumping up the stairs & slamming their doors!) The bells at a nearby chuch started ringing at 8am, but made a lovely sound!
Our bedroom was light & spacious with a nice bathroom. My only complaint would be that one of the sisters who owns the place, (the blond one, whose name I forget) wasn't very friendly. We saw her the most when we were coming & going, but she seemed a bit sulky! The dark haired sister made more of an effort.
Apart from that, we had a great time, & I'd have no hesitation in recommending this place.
Girls - you will love the huge range of jewellry, handbags & Murano glass on sale, some of it very reasonably priced.

“Lovely”

We stayed here for 3 nights in Feb 2008, rates were 110 euros for the first 2 nights, and 120 euros for the 3rd (perhaps because it was a Friday). A delicious breakfast buffet was included in the price.
Good directions made this boutique hotel easy to find. It's a delightful place, and a lot of thought appears to have been put into the decor. Our room was large, with a great bathroom (TWO heated towel racks!). Everything was spotless.
Generally it was quite quiet, except for the hourly church bells (but not at night, or perhaps we slept through those). And unfortunately we could hear people clomping up and down the stairs, but we coped. The sisters running the hotel were fine, if a bit aloof.
Location-wise, it takes about 20 minutes to Piazza San Marco, if you don't get lost. And only 5 mins to the train station.
We would definitely consider staying here again.

Quiet area away from the crowds. Rooms spotless and a good size for Venice. Close to the bus station so handy if you have bags to carry.
