“Wonderful!”

Great little place to stay! I did research on Trip Advisor (thank you fellow travellers!) before selecting this hotel. Quiet and away from the noise of heavily travelled tourist spots but near to Rialto Bridge and other sites. It's about a 15 minute walk to San Marco (if you know the short-cuts) and I would say 30-35 minute if you were a first timer and being adventurous. It is easy to get lost in the street of Venicia but all worth it-you'll find your way out somehow! There is also a Vaporetto stop RIGHT in front of the hotel-how convenient is that?

Matteo was a wonderful host and we felt safe and snug in this hotel. Suggested a great place to have dinner which was inexpensive and wonderful!

Rooms and bathrooms were clean clean clean! Breakfast was abundant with rolls, pastries, milk, coffee, juice; an assortment of yogurt and jellies.

Loves: Strong water pressure, immaculate bathroom, friendly host
Hates: We coudn't stay in Venicia longer

“A little Gem!”

Hotel Vecellio

Mar 10, 2008

Just home from a three night stay at this beautiful little hotel. It is in a fantastic location - get the Alilaguna from the airport get off at the second stop Fondamente Nouve and over one bridge and you are at the door of the hotel! The hotel is very compact with about only eight rooms - We stayed in the gold room which was of OK size and adequate shower room. The original wooden beams on the ceiling and Venetian decor make it even more magical. Matteo the owner warned us that this was a warm room (for some reason) but as it was cold outside we didn't mind! Breakfast was fine - croissants, breads, yoghurts and a yummy choice of chocolate or cheese spread. I chose this hotel after reading TA reviews and because it worked out so cheap. It is fantastic value and would definitely visit again.

“Very Nice”

Hotel Vecellio

Mar 5, 2008

Difficult to add to the postive feedback. Good, clean hotel, excellent location away from the tourist mayhem. Handy for the waterbus. Cash machine three paces from hotel door. Posh (and very nice) restaurant on one side, cheap pizza place three doors down on the other side. Pleasant host.

Small point. the waterbus from the airport doesn't stop outside, it stops about a hundred yards away, the other side of a small bridge with (about a dozen) steep steps.

We had a ground floor room so missed out on the beams, we were at pavement level with pedestrians a couple of feet from the window - net curtains, no problem. They are currently doing some building work on the embankment/pavement outside and there is some noise but again, didn't bother us we were out all day getting lost in Venice!

We had a fabulous long weekend.

“Excellent, good value boutique hotel”

Hotel Vecellio

5 of 5 stars
London, England
Mar 2, 2008

My wife and I have just returned from a 5 night stay at the Vecellio and can wholeheartedly recommend it. We had read Trip Advisor reviews before booking and can confirm that most of them (mainly the complimentary ones) are accurate. Matteo, the owner/manager, is supremely helpful and speaks very good English. The bedrooms are small but tastefully furnished and comfortable with plenty of lighting. The hotel overlooks the busy Fundamenta Nove waterbus stop (accessible by direct boat from the airport, from the train station or the bus station) but the soundproofing is good so the noise is not a problem. In warmer weather one would presumably have to put up with the noise or use the aircon. An adequate continental breakfast is included in the very reasonable room rate. Travel is very easy. You can walk, if you don't get lost (which is always good fun in Venice!) to Rialto in about 7 minutes and to St Mark's in about 15. Frequent waterbuses from the front of the hotel take you to Murano, Burano and the other smaller islands or to the Lido or to Guidecca or right around Venice in either direction. It's well worth getting a timetable and a 1, 2 or 3 day travelpass from the office at the waterbus stop (31 euros for 72hrs) although not once in 3 days of extensive travel were we asked to show the passes! There is a great but somewhat expensive restaurant next door called the Alguibagio where the food is outstanding and the service superb and is ideal for a special celebration.

“Personal Service”

Hotel Vecellio

4 of 5 stars

As the hotel only has 8 rooms, Matteo, the manager, is able to give a very personal service. As a born & bred Venetian, he knows all the non tourist sights & restaurants, & is happy to give suggestions. However he is not pushy either.
Our room, the red room was lovely, with Venetian decor, and 2 windows, 1 overlooking the lagoon. Shower room is small, but newly installed & very clean.
We enjoyed the tranquility of the location after the crowds in the city center.
We would highly recommend this hotel to all out friends & family.
