I have just returned from a long weekend trip to Venice with my Mum. We stayed at the Villa Igea and had a brilliant time. The hotel is situated about 50 metres from the San Zaccaria water bus stop through
a small alley way. I actually got the directions from another review of this hotel on Trip Advisor. The staff were really helpful and friendly. We wanted to watch the rugby world cup final and they found
us a pub that was showing the game!

Our room was nicely decorated and comfortable. The bathroom was spotless and the shower was powerful and very large! We booked our flight and the hotel through Expedia and got an amazingly competitive
price. I would definitely recommend this hotel and am very surprised that it was only a three star. It is great value for money.

Breakfast is a buffet which is included on a B&B basis and although the dining room is relatively small we never had to wait to be seated. Although dinner isn't served at the hotel we would recommend the Trattoria Rivetta which has a great atmosphere and is good value for money. You need to turn left out of the hotel and then take the left in the corner of the square. The restaurant is straight ahead on the left just over the bridge. However, it is very popular so you might have to wait for a table. When we were there we were offered a glass of wine and some snacks whilst we waited!

All in all we had a great time. Definitely book this hotel!

“Great place to stay”

I would defintiely recommend Villa Igea. The location was great. Near St. Marks but in a quiet campo across from a beautiful church. The room was a reasonable size for Venice, and was nice and clean (with the exception of the carpet which could use a professional cleaning). The manager Tomasso was very sweet and helpful.

Returned this week from a six night stay at Villa Igea. I had booked it because we couldn't book the hotel we had stayed in previously and couldn't have made a better choice. The location is perfect. I don't want to repeat the comments of other visitors to the hotel but I liked the very Venetian decor and the fabric covered walls. We were given a small suite of a double room, single room and en suite. The wardrobe space was in the single room which we used as a dressingroom. This could have been difficult if three adults had actually been using the rooms as there was no storage in the double room but we were very comfortable. We also had no view as our room overlooked an alley at the rear of the building but we didn't mind that. Some visitors might not be happy with the church bells regularly pealing but I loved it and, although I don't usually sleep well, I had no problem and slept soundly. I liked the fresh bed linen every day. Staff were very pleasant , friendly and efficient. Breakfast was to my taste. I am vegetarian and had an excellent choice.
Venice was as beautiful as ever and I hope to go back to Villa Igea again. Go to Zattere and have gelato at Nico's while watching the huge cruise ships go past. Just around the corner you will see a very old gondola yard which I first read about in Marlena de Blasi's book 'A Thousand Days in Venice'. She also frequented Nico's for gelato. Don't just visit the museums and churches - go on the audio tour of the Theatre La Fenice. I thought I had seen just about everything Venice could amaze me with until I saw the auditorium in the theatre. We ended every evening, wandering in Piazza San Marco listening to the music. If you are reading this and about to go to Venice for the first time, I envy you. There is nothing to compare with the first visit.

“Great location near san marco but away from the crowds”

We booked our family into four rooms in Hotel Villa Igea where had a great stay. The Villa's location is ideal being in Piazza San Zaccaria, a quiet piazza across from its incredible church (be sure to view the interior). It is close to but isolated from Piazza San Marco and the bustling crowds. Three of the rooms were standards yet nicer than most standards and one was superior. The latter had a small sitting room and very private balcony -deck overlooking the piazza. There are also balconies available to all guests great for evening wine and snacks. The rooms were well decorated, clean, comfortable and quiet.

The Villa Igea's staff and management were superb, friendly, knowledgeable and very accommodating. The breakfast was also very good with many choices. There is a lift or elevator, an especially helpful feature for some. We've been to Venice several times and this has been the best hotel so far.

The Hotel Villa Igea is accessed via vaporetto (water bus) numbers 1, 41, and 51. Whatever vaporetto you take get off at the San Zaccaria vaporetto landing then proceed straight across the busy quay and through an arch into Piazza San Zaccaria (the arch also indicates the direction to "Ospedale San Giovanni e San Paolo". The hotel is about 25 yards further on the left opposite the church.

If you arrive in Venice during rush hour consider taking a vaporetto (#51?) instead of # 1. Choose one that does not stop at every dock along the Grand Canal (very picturesque) but instead goes around the island with fewer stops

“Good Location, Good Value”

Villa Igea

4 of 5 stars
Halifax, England

I stayed at the Villa Igea for four nights in September with my mum. The hotel is really easy to find - just get off the boat at San Zaccaria and walk along the passageway next to the Hotel Savoia & Jolanda into the square - the hotel directly faces the church of San Zaccaria. Check-in was very fast and efficient, and the porter also very friendly, showed us all the facilities and didn't hang around for a tip (although we gave him one anyway but we had to move fast!)
Our room was small but really nicely furnished, all of the walls in the hotel are fabric-covered which gives an air of opulence. The floor was carpeted rather than tiled which gave more comfort to my mum's aching feet! The bathroom was spotless and although small, had everything needed, including a hairdryer and a large selection of toiletries. The bedclothes on our twin beds were changed every day. The television had several english-language channels, including Sky Cinema, BBC World and Foxl, in case you have to spend any time in your room recovering from the walking! The only disappointment with our room was that we had no view whatsoever (and I mean NO view - we were looking out into what was basically a large ventilation shaft which went from the ground floor service area up to the sky). Breakfast was served in the hotel (not as it used to be, in the sister hotel next door). The breakfast room was very pleasant although quite small, and I saw people queueing on two occasions, later on in the service (breakfast served from 7-10). Breakfast was lovely with a large selection of hams, cheese, eggs, different types of bread, apple tart, cookies, fresh fruit salad, fresh fruit, cereals, jams, yoghurts, fruit juices, toast, croissants....and sausage, eggs and bacon in the hot plate (quite a continental version though!) Despite the view, we still felt that the hotel offered good value for money and agreed that we would stay there again. There is a small roof terrace on the first floor with tables overlooking the lovely church of San Zaccaria for people with the same view we had! Another bonus for this hotel is the location - only 5 minutes walk (at a very steady pace) from St Mark's Square and many restaurants within a short walk. Only two minutes from the San Zaccaria waterbus stop which gave very easy access to the whole city for anyone struggling with too much walking.
