“Fabulous Hotel, Great Location”

My friend and I stayed in the Hotel Colombina in February during the carnival, 3rd-8th February 2008. It is ideally located just off St Marks square.
DIRECTIONS
From the Vaparetto stop St Marks turn right towards the square.
Walk past the Doge's Palace and the Basilica St Mark (both should be on your right), go throught the archway under the astronomical clock, turn first right down narrow street of shops and take the last turn on the left before you hit the canal. Then turn right at sign, over the bridge and you're there. It takes less than 5 minutes.

The hotel itself has a waterside entrance and one on a narrow street both of whom lead to the lobby. The staff are very helpful, they told us places to eat, where to visit, and, most importantly for us, where to get cheap costumes from. They were always courteous and you could even have a laugh with them (usually when I tried my Italian out!).
There is a little bar that is rarely used but the service is good and the cocktails lovely, and reasonably priced.
Our room was in the attic of the building, up the lift to the 4th floor then up another flight of stairs. It was relatively small but perfectly formed with a balcony and window overlooking nearby homes. the bathroom was tiny but still good it had a bath with a shower over it and toilet, sink and bidet.
Bedding and towels were changed daily.
My friend stayed there last year and her room overlooked the bridge of sighs so there are better rooms, however, we were very happy with ours.
Breakfast was served at a reasonable time 7-1030 and was buffet style with tea and coffee made fresh and brought to your table. It usually consisted of a range of serials, breads, cheese, meat, fruit salad, yoghurts and an odd choice of some kind of dessert, apple tart, gateaux, cake. There was also fruit juices and water. You could order hot food but that was charged extra.
The only slight disappointment was a breakfast ordered to come to the room that didn't arrive until we rang down.
Hotel Colombina was a perfectly positioned hotel near to the sights and the vaparetto as well as within walking distance of most of the sights and close to some lovely restaurants. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone going to Venice it certainly helped to make our trip even more special.

“Love Colombina Hotel”

Colombina Hotel is a nice hotel near St. Marks Square in Venice. The staff was accommodating and helpful; however, their restaurant suggestion was not that great. The room was a triple and had adequate room for our luggage. It was a little difficult to get to once we arrived. I would NOT recommend taking a waterbus, as you have to haul your luggage through St. Mark's square and through the narrow alleys to get to the Colombina. It is worth the extra money to take a water taxi that will drop you off right at the door of the hotel. The hotel had a nice sitting area and bar. The breakfast consisted of breads, sweet rolls, cereals, meats & cheese, water & juice. If you ordered coffee here, it was an extra charge. This hotel was very nice and I would highly recommend it.

LOVED IT ! Totaly charming, the rooms were realy clean, little small but hey its VENICE.and it was the start of the frestival, staff most helpful, and the local perfect, you can see the bridge of sighs from the landing, so cool,I would go back any time and that is the beat recomentiation I can give !!

“Will Never Stay Here”

We had an unfortunate situation where we'd had our passports stolen right before we could check into this hotel. The person at the front desk denied us of lodging at the hotel because of its internal requirement for a passport. We had to take the late-night train back to Milan because we had no place to stay. We understand that hotels need to verify the guest's identification. We had other forms of identification and enough cash and credit cards to pay for the room many times over (we had paid in full for the room prior to our arrival in the first place). Given the unfortunate circumstances, the hotel could have (and should have) accommodated us by perhaps letting us stay at least till the next morning to ensure our safety. A hotel is in the business of accommodating the guest and ensuring the safety of its guest. I am appalled by this hotel's outrageous behavior. I urge other travelers never to give this hotel any business.

My name is Andrea Doria and I'm the Manager of the Hotel Colombina.
Regarding this particular review, here's the history from our side..........Mr. Filippo1978 arrived at the Hotel around 3.00 pm.
In Italy, clients are obliged to give to the receptionist the passports in order to verify the identity and in order to prepare the check-in card, naturally this is for safety reasons.
Mr. Filippo1978 told us they somebody stolen the passports. We immediately indicate to the customers the nearest police station, explaining that was inportant to get a certificate from them in order to declare the theft and to check in at the hotel.
Please note that police station is 300 metres far from the Colombina.
We gave anyway the room, but advising that without the declaration from the police we were unable to let them stay for the night.
The came downstairs around 4.00 pm and we invited them again to go to the police station.
The answer was simple: they did not want to spent their time at the police station, missing their visit in Venice and telling how rude we were, they left the Hotel.
So at this point my question is: if the passports have been stolen, why the clients did not want to go to the police ?
We have some tasks to obey and there nothing we can do about. Sorry that Mr. Filippo1978 did not understand.

“great hotel”

Had a great stay in Venice at the Hotel which was only a few minutes walk from St Marks Square. The room was good and better than most I have stayed in over the past ten years. The Staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was obviously well cared for as it was always clean. The breakfast was plentiful with a good choice of food. I would highly recommend this hotel.
