After traveling 15 days in Italy and experimenting with 4 hotel accommodations in four cities along the way, our stay at the Jolly was certainly not Jolly. The hotel masquerades as a 4 stars hotel, which believe me its not (3 at best). The rooms (at least ours which was on the 4th floor) are straight from Stanley Kurbrick's Clock work orange movie. Early 1970's decor with grey and white press wood furniture, pseudo high tech (at the time I guess) mechanical gadgetry (see pictures its hilarious) and fluorescent lighting. The air conditioning was amongst the most anemic we experienced in Italy. WIFI Internet access from the room is unreliable and slow. The best place to get a somehow functional signal was sitting on the toilet :). The rooms are however clean. One thing though forget about your privacy during the day as the rooms becomes central station with people coming in and out of your room several time a day. Even with two do not disturbed signs (one on the door and the high tech one on the wall next to the door) we had people (supervising staff, plumber, maid) barging in the middle of the afternoon). The breakfast was nothing to write home about. In terms of location it’s relatively ok. Overall not the best of accommodations, but in a crunch it could be an option if you get a super deal. However the customer service in this hotel just kills any deals. Stay away from this hotel ! The hotel staff at the reception was amongst the rudest, antagonistic and unhelpful people we've meet in our trip. Language might have been a factor (they don't speak much English nor French) but attitude goes a long way. Theirs was just awful. Customer service was not their forte as we were to experience during our stay. The check in was certainly not what I expected after a 6-hour trip. They just don’t care much about accommodating tourists. Case in point, while in Turin we experienced a spontaneous taxi strike that started 45 minutes before a match in the world cup with Italy. As it turned out it was generalized to Italy (believe me it was fun logging our luggage around after that). Upon asking for a taxi at the reception desk to go to a meeting that night (the strike started 45 minutes before), the employee tells me without explanation that there is NO TAXI. After trying to get a sense of the situation he tells me that they are on strike. I ask until when, how and he doesn’t know nor answer and tells me I need a car (I still don’t know if he was being sarcastic) and doesn’t offer any solutions. My wife asks about public transport options and he grudgingly gives us some directions. Before we go on our merry way I ask (we were traveling to the airport the next day) if the strike would continue the next day and if he had some options for the airport (i.e. private car service). He didn’t know nor offer to get back to me on it. This is just one example where not only they missed the boat in helping us but some degree of empathy with our situation would have helped diffuse our anxiety (getting organized at last minute with public transport in a foreign city to reach a flight at the airport). We were pretty much left stranded. We managed ourselves but no thanks to the hotel staff. They just didn’t care. The hotel seems more geared toward the business crowd. Funny thing I was on business in Turin… Either way I don’t need this kind of aggravation when traveling. Certainly not in a pseudo 4 stars hotel with a Stanley Kurbrick décor and Igor at the front desk…
