“Nice hotel, but miles from anywhere”

Starhotel Cristallo Palace

2 of 5 stars
Birmingham
Apr 15, 2007

Can I say that the hotel itself is very high standard, food and room were fine. However, this hotel is next to a main road and convenient for pilots from Bergamo Airport but not so much tourists. Road noise is very bad, and drunk people keep you up. We thought this was locals but they transferred into the hotel to make more noise - perhaps the pilots again. You have to walk a long way to Bergamo central station for buses and trains to Milan or the Airport. The hotel really is in the middle of nowhere, south of the centre, and you have to pass through the dubious area of drunks and street people to reach Bergamo centre (or the station). The extras at the hotel will cost you - gym is not on site and expensive, room drinks are £4.50 Euros upwards. Then you will need taxis to your destination because walking is too far and not always safe. Bergamo is an affluent small city, choked with traffic and fumes I must say, but nowhere near the size of Milan and its shops. Also, the trains to Milan are quite infrequent - 1.5 hour waits not unusual. The trains were not exactly new, and little indication of your stop (even the station signs are not illuminated).

To sum up this is not a hotel for people wishing to visit MILAN.

“swimming pool not in hotel as described”

Starhotel Cristallo Palace

Feb 4, 2007

This was a nice hotel but is was too far to walk from here to town. Also the bar was very expensive .There was a brill pizzeria across the road and the wine and beer were approx a Euro a glass compared to apprx 7Euro in the hotel.
The most expensive pizza which was brill was 7Euro.The staff were also great.
One of the reasons we choose this hotel was to use the pool but the pool was next door and doesnt seem to belong to the hotel at all and you needed to spend a small fortune getting the slippers dressing gown, and fee etc before you could go.Working out at over 30 Euro for a swim!

Good place to stay. Not mucharound the area.A nice walk to the plazacenter of the new city.(30 Mins<) Bar was nice, with large sitting area and tv. Breakfast was good. Room A/C didnt work very well. A lot of traffic noise with room window open. Nice bathrooms with very large showers. Taxi ride to "CityAlta" (old city) a bit pricey,€15 eachway.

“A good place to stay”

Starhotel Cristallo Palace

We stayed her for a week late in august. Cristallo was a good place to stay, The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was very clean and nice rooms, an another + was the internet ability. The restaurant was very good, good meals, wines and a ok bar, and the prices was at the average. The breakfest was very good. In the internet overview we was told about a swimming pool at the hotel. That was a fake. The pool was in another place nearby and it was expensive to use. (We did not try it). If you stays at the hotel to see Bergamo and the places around, we thought the hotel was too fare from the city centre. It is not easy to get a taxi in Bergamo (14.00 to midnight) so you have to walk a lot. The surroundings at the hotel was not the best, but ok.

“Cristallo Palace - An Excellent Hotel”

Starhotel Cristallo Palace

We are an English couple in our early fifties - fit and active

We spent 10 nights in the Cristallo Palace, using it as a base to visit Lombardy and the Lakes.
I cannot reccommend the hotel highly enough.
The Hotel was very clean. The rooms were more than adaquate, spotless, linen changed daily, with excellent shower facilities and toileteries. All mod cons incl. internet and tea and coffee in the room
Breakfast was very good by normal Italian hotel standards and the restaraunt serves fine food.
The Staff were pleasant, friendly, efficient and spoke good english. They helped us extensively with advice about the area and about means of travel. Look out for the Barman, a chap from Sicily with a good sense of humour and excellent cold beer.
I must compliment the Manager for his friendly manner, efficient way in which the hotel is run and the overall service which it offers.

Thank you Cristallo Palace we really enjoyed our stay.
