Right in the thick of it (check the map), the Pomezia has got to be in one of the best locations to set up a base for sight seeing. All the ‘big sights’ are within walking distance (regardless of individual athleticism), but if you really need to rest your feet, just put your hand out and hail a cab. We got a double room on the top floor, keep this in mind if you’ve got an aversion to stairs – after a hard day’s sight seeing and drinking wine while people watching in the Piazza Navona, your feet will not thank you for six flights of steep stairs… The air conditioning didn’t work, but wasn’t necessary really ‘cos the weather was great. Good shower, clean room.
The operational status of the coffee machine in the dining area downstairs was intermittent depending on who was on duty behind the front desk, but miraculously fixed itself in time for breakfast… an odd little quirk to me, not so funny for the caffeine addict.
However, on checking out, a pleasant surprise – our man on duty at the time was calculating the standard 3 nights at 80 euros per night (bargain), when I confessed the sins of the afore-mentioned caffeine addict, the bottles of water, and the phone call from the room, which I thought might be on the expensive side. With a typically dismissive waving gesture exclusive to Italians, he mumbled “it’s not a problem”, and only charged for the stay. A really nice touch. Well recommended.
