We booked a twin room on short notice and paid around 340 EURO per night. It seems that this is the rate you have to pay to get a good, clean, spacious hotelroom in Rome.
The Sofitel is nicely located off the Via Veneto, a short Taxi ride from Termini (the main train station in Rome). Or a 5 minute walk from either Metro station Spagna or Barberini. It is going up hill or up the Spanish Steps from the Metro stations so the Metro is not the most comfortable way to travel if you have heavy or plenty luggage. The taxi ride should cost you less than 10 EURO.
The room was facing the yard which made it very quiet though not offering the greatest view of course. It had 2 comfortable beds, the usual 4 star stuff as cable TV, minibar, safe and a big sofa. Room was clean and cosy. The Bathroom was pretty big, bright and clean, a bath tub but no separate shower cabin.
Breakfast was good by Italian standards but not overwhelming: scrambled egg, sausages and ham, juices, cereals, breads and cakes, canned fruits, excellent prosciutto ham and cheeses – no fresh fruit or veggies like tomatoes though.
The food I ordered to the room came in no time and was very good and reasonable priced – unlike the beer from the minibar which costs 7 EURO for a small bottle of local beer. There is a nice bar in the lobby which is opened till midnight where the drinks are much cheaper, so go there for your sun-downer or get your drink there to enjoy it on the 7th floor terrace which offers a great view of Rome!
There are loads of restaurants around the area, something for every taste I suppose.
Overall this hotel is by far better than another 4 Star Hotel I booked in Rome though it is only 10% more expensive (see my other contributions if you want to know which Hotel).
