“An Oasis of calm in the dirtiest part of town”

This hotel is the nicest hotel out of all that we stayed in Italy. It is a four star hotel and is frequented mostly by business people who enjoy it's close proximity to the train station.
It is a beautiful hotel, the rooms are spacious, as are the bathrooms, and there are all the amenities that you would expect from a 4 star hotel. The hotel staff speak english (which is great) and they are very friendly and helpful.
The area, however, leaves much to be desired. The train station area is said to be the worst in Naples, but unfortunately, it was the only hotel that could fit us in.
We made sure that we were back at our hotel before dark, every night that we were there.
The rooms are soundproofed so that you can't hear the noise from the busy area outside the hotel.
I would only recommend this hotel to couples with out kids, or people who aren't staying very long, purely because of the area that it is situated in.

Unique Qualities: A quiet haven away from the noise and mayem outside.

We were en route to isole d'Ischia from Rome. Arrived in Naples at Garibaldi Central station at 10pm and walked the 100 metres to the hotel without any hassels. Our pre booked triple room was well appointed and comfortable. Everything was functional and the balcony views to Vesuvius were an unexpected bonus. It was interesting next morning to watch the bustle of the city below. Excellent (but typical hotel ) breakfast in a modern dining room with attentive but unobtrusive staff. The staff were helpful when information was requested. Ideal if like us you are travelling by train ( and hydrofoil) to visit Isole d'Ischia.

“Dirty, unpolite, but expensive”

The male receptionist was almost hostile, and proved to give incorrect info. The triple standard room was a small room with three almost military style beds. The airconditioning was stuck to 30 degrees Centigrade, and we had to keep the balcony door opened. Nothing to be compared to the website of the hotel. Plus, on the second evening we had to raise hell in order they sent someone to clean the room and change towels. The maid came at five o'clock, and said that she had no time to fix our room. So, she made beds quickly, left towels and left us. Afterwards we found a pair of blue stocks in the sheets! We have never stayed in a worse hotel in the world, and here I must say we travel very often and to very distant destinations. So, our stay in Naples was spoiled by paying 217 Euros per night, for such an ugly pighole.

“Pleasant stay - grim area”

Starhotel Terminus

The Starhotel Terminus is an above average hotel in a pretty ghastly part of town. Naples isn't your normal, slick tourist citybreak - there are plenty of grim parts of town among the jewels - but the Piazza Garibaldi has to be one of the least inviting of public squares anywhere in Italy!

The hotel staff were welcoming and generally helpful, the foyer area and other public spaces were clean, bright and generally well kept. Our room was fine and we had no complaints to make about it, although the view out of the window on the square wasn't great! The noise in the square meant we couldn't rely on a lie-in.

The much-vaunted roof terrace could've done with a bar because the views over Vesuvius are great. Nothing was being served on the terrace during our stay.

The Piazza Garibaldi is not a place to hang out. It's a glorified, vast and polluted bus station complete with dubious characters and a massive building site where the new Metro is being built. It's one saving grace is the main train station, which means the walk from your hotel to catch trains to places like Pompeii and Sorrento is short.

We caught cabs back to the hotel every night and two out of three trips were fine - the third the driver tried to rip us off!

“Not a 4* establishment...”

Starhotel Terminus

I would not say this hotel is 4*. I would say this is a 3* establishment. The foyer was very nice but the carpets in the rooms, communal areas, and by the lift were worn and stained and need of a good scrub!

The area where the hotel was located, I felt was unsafe and dodgy, whilst we were there the public phones outside the hotel were broken into and vandalised. However, given the general state of Naples i.e dirty and unpleasant , the hotel was good!

Staff were dour but then again compared to people we met in Naples that was the typical attitude!

A warning to those who are of ethnic descent... I found Naples to be a very racist place and we were stopped and searched by police TWICE during our 4 day stay because they accused us of being illegal immigrants!!! And had verbal abused hurdled at us. Even when we showed them our British passports (I was born and brought up in the UK) they thought it was fake! My friends had firecrackers throwed at them (by children!) at central station. This is honestly what happened and I am not exaggerating. My general perception was that a lot of Neapolitans are intolerant of other races. That's especially sad because it's the 21st century and we were simply tourists wanting to enjoy their city and culture.
