“Good Hotel - A Little Overpriced”

Rock Hotel Gibraltar

I spent 3 nights at the Rock Hotel in May, 2006. It's an old colonial-style hotel but has been kept up pretty well. The room I had was slightly worn but generally OK. The staff was OK but not great. Some of them were young and rather inexperienced.

The buffet breakfast was fabulous. The biggest meal I had all day was breakfast, I kept going back for more. The dining room and the foyer sitting rooms really take you back to the colonial era.

However, the real highlight of staying at the Rock Hotel is the view from the balcony. It's really one of the greatest views I have ever had at a hotel. Morocco is on the left, Spain and the bay is in front of you and to the right, Gibraltar is below you, and the Rock of Gib is behind you. The view was the highlight and the balconies are very large with chairs and even lounges.

However, at almost $300 US per night this place isn't cheap. Even with everything good I just said, it's still somewhat overpriced. If I ever go back to Gib I would even consider staying across the border in La Linea. I saw some nice 3 star hotels right across from the beach. Gib is a short walk from La Linea and buses leave for Gib town center right after you cross the border.

I have been to many hotels throughout the World but nothing has really stood out as being above average until my recent holiday (May 2006) to Gibraltar. There I stayed at the Rock Hotel. The staff and facilities were brilliant and the room was massive - I really thought I was in a luxury suite rather than an "ordinary" room. I found the staff very friendly and helpful but not with all the irritating and insincere "Sir" after every sentence, they seemed very pleased to help and nothing was too much trouble for them. The bar, breakfast room and lounge area were first class and the food was excellent. It was not the first time I have been to Gibraltar but I do regret not booking into the Rock on previous visits. I wish The Rock every succes and thouroughly recommend it

We won a prize weekend break at this hotel, and I have to say that it was a wonderful experience. The room was clean, comfortable with excellent facilities. The view from the balcony was just fantastic.

The breakfasts were superb with a large choice.

The staff were helpful and accommodating.

All in all, it made our stay in Gibraltar an absolute pleasure. We can't wait to return!

Wonderful hotel, staff very friendly, position superb.
Gibraltar is a great place, clean, hassle free and so much to do and many places to go.
We were only there for 4 days but wish it could have been longer, we'll definitely go again

“Fantastic!!!”

The Rock Hotel truly is one of the best hotels I have ever been to. The service is magnificent (as is the decor), the breakfast is lovely, and although we only stayed for dinner once in our 7 night stay, the food is top notch.

The rooms are clean, the bed is enourmous, and the ducks in the bath are a lovely touch. The room is cleaned every day, with the lollipops by the bedside being refreshed also! The pool is fantastic, with waiters from the poolside bar circulating regularly. The pool is surrounded by tropical vegitation, and is perfect for relaxing.

Gibraltar itself is lovely. Although there are some places to be avoided (such as the area near Eastern Beach) the majority of the colony is very nice-the barbary apes are a must-see!

I would recommend the Rock Hotel to anybody wanting a fantastic holiday in the Costa del Sol.
