“Lovely hotel with great service”

Hotel Montecarlo

After searching high and low for the right hotel for a brief stay in Barcelona, I chose the Hotel Montecarlo based in large part on Tripadvisor reviews.

Upon arrival at the airport, I took a taxi to the hotel. I did struggle a bit to get my luggage up the few steps leading into the hotel, as there is no staff waiting to assist. However, once I made it to the reception desk, everything was great.

I arrived around 10 in the morning, which was of course earlier than usual for check-in. I was initially told that my room was not yet ready, but a staff member nearby (presumably someone more senior) said to hang on, and then when he finished helping the guest he was with he found me a room that was ready so that I could check in - which was much appreciated after the long flight from the US. A staff member showed me my room and then delivered my luggage for me.

The room was lovely, spacious and quiet. I didn't have much of a view, but it didn't really matter to me since I didn't plan on spending much time hanging around in the room. The marble bathroom was especially pretty. I did have a brief problem with the electrical outlet in the bathroom not working, but that was quickly resolved when someone came up to the room and flipped the breaker. The room had everything I needed including a minibar, blow dryer, safe, etc. Prices for drinks from the minibar seemed quite reasonable. The bed was very comfortable - and could even be adjusted so I could sit in an upright position while reading or watching TV.

I truly loved the location of this hotel, being able to walk out the door and be on a busy area of Las Ramblas. There are many restaurants, shops, etc. nearby, and it was enjoyable just to walk up and down the streets. You can catch either of the major tourist buses with about a five-minute walk to Placa de Catalunya. There is also a metro station a couple of minutes away.

Upon checkout I needed a taxi, and the staff was gracious in telling me just to wait inside while they hailed a taxi for me and got my luggage down the steps to the taxi. Not being very proficient in Spanish or Catalan, I had written down my destination (I was going to the port to catch a cruise) and the hotel staff member was kind enough to relay it to the driver, who spoke no English. In fact, the cab driver I had coming in from the airport did not seem to speak any English either - while most of the hotel staff seemed to have perfect English. This was another plus for me.

In summary, the room was nice, the staff was gracious, and the location was perfect. I would love to stay at the Montecarlo again the next time I am in Barcelona (which I hope is soon!).

“Amazing Hotel in a Great Location”

Hotel Montecarlo

My husband and I spent our honeymoon on a cruise through parts of Europe. The final stop on the cruise was Barcelona. We only had two days to explore Barcelona before flying home, so we wanted a hotel in a location that was convenient to most of the attractions. After searching through reviews on TripAdvisor, we came across the Montecarlo and immediately booked it.

Upon arrival from the ship at 9 in the morning, we were told that normally check in is at 3 pm, but they would see what they could do. They immediately got us a wonderful room on the top floor overlooking Las Rambla. We had booked a standard room. Our bags were brought up right away. The room was great and very clean. We had a little balcony as well. The bathroom was very nice and had a jetted tub. It even had speakers that brought in the sound of the whatever was on the TV. They provide you with robes and slippers as well and the bed had a control for each side so you could raise or lower the head or foot part. If you are worried about noise from Las Rambla, don't. There are two sliding glass doors that block out 95 percent of the noise. I was shocked at how well it worked. The hotel itself was beautiful and very charming. There are wonderful views of the city from the rooftop.

The staff happily went out of their way to make our short stay that much more special. When we asked for a place to eat, they brought out maps and called ahead to get us reservations. They even recommended their favorite dishes there. If you want a great place to eat check out La Gavina. They had the best paella. It's down by the water in Plaza Pau Vila. On the last day the staff was kind enough to hold our bags while we explored the city for one last time. Since our stay was so short, they recommended taking the Barcelona Tourist Bus. That was a wonderful way to see most of the city in only two short days. You pay one price and get on and off the bus at your own pace. The buses travel on a set schedule. You get headphones to listen to the facts of each of the sites as well.

We highly recommend the Montecarlo. They treat you like royalty and go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your time in Barcelona.

“First-rate in every way”

Hotel Montecarlo

We could not have been happier with the hotel. The location is great, right on La Rembla, two blocks from the Plaza de Catalunya. La Rembla is a main street leading up from the port to the center of the city. It has a wide median strip with lots of kiosks, street entertainers, etc. On Sunday it is particularly crowded because the city's people walk up and down the street and a modern version of a paseo. The site is also convenient for catching the open top-deck tourist buses around town. The two main routes stop right at the plaza. There are also many restaurants, etc. around. There is a small supermarket across the street. The hotel is also near to the subway, and many taxis go by for easy flagging. We took in a flamenco show, and it was almost directly across the street from the hotel. The hotel itself was first-rate, specially for the price (149 euros). The room and bathroom were both quite large and very clean. The room had ad dual-control electric adjustable bed-something I've never seen in a hotel. The bath an a good size whirlpool tub. The staff was quite helpful about booking tickets, restaurant suggestions. The buffet breakfast as extra, but at 9 euros was a good bargain. There is free internet in the lobby.

“Fabulous hotel and Best Location”

Hotel Montecarlo

After reading all the wonderful reviews on tripadvisor, we decided to book 6 nights at the Hotel Montecarlo. We were not disappointed. We had a beautiful room on the 5th floor overlooking Las Ramblas, balcony with a wonderful view of the city, palatial bathroom with jacuzzi tub, spacious shower, great bathrobes and slippers and even a scale so we could make sure we did not gain too much weight from all the tapas and sangria! The room were very quiet at night, with double pane windows and blackout shades. The bed was extremely comfortable with great bed linens and thick absorbent towels.

The location is perfect and the staff were always helpful and accommodating. They spoke great English and the service was just perfect. We felt very safe here and would definitely recommend this hotel to others for the location, great rooms. service, and value for the money. They do have a great breakfast for 9 euros but we choose to go to other small cafes nearby for a little less money and a change of atmosphere.

This was a wonderful find and I am so glad to have found this gem through Tripadvisor. You will not be disappointed!

“Quiet and Comfortable Stay”

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Our taxi drove us right up to the door and someone was out immediately to take our bags in and hold them for the day until our room was ready. We had just the standard room on the fifth floor. It was overlooking the courtyard. It was fine with us that it did not overlook La Rambla. I took a nice jacuzzi to unwind after our long flight and it was wonderful. They provided a very nice assortment of perfumes and bath crystals and goodies. Very nice touch. The beds were nice, except that they separated during the night and I ended up sleeping in between the two mattresses because I was too tired w/ jet lag to get out of it!! The only thing I would say negatively about the room is that though it did have a CD player I was surprised at the quality of it. I don't think I would advertise that. But, it was nice to have in the room.
The staff was willing to help and if you asked a question, they quickly pulled out a map to show you.
The ATM right outside the Hotel is archaic and we were afraid it was going to take our card. We had no problems w/ pickpocketing, although we could sort of spot them in the Boqueria when we were sittiing on bar stools looking at our pockets. Keep your bag in your lap and across your body ALL THE TIME. We absoluteley loved Barcelona and almost wished we were not going on our cruise to stay there longer. Don't miss Boqueria and Pintoxto Bar!!!!We ate and drank like the locals and they liked us for it! (wine at 9 a.m.!) Also go have lunch at 4 CATS!!!!!! Awesome!
