This was my first trip to Barcelona, and a friend recommended the Hotel Regina to me. I couldn’t have been more grateful for the advice. This hotel was WONDERFUL!
Location: couldn’t be better. It’s right at Pl. de Catalunya , at the top of La Rambla, so you are footsteps away from everything. You can wander down La Rambla all the way to the water. About halfway down (maybe 10 minutes) is the Boqueria. There’s also a supermarket a few feet away from the boqueria, so you can stock up on large water botles for your room if you want. Grab some fruit and snacks at the Boqueria. Walking down La Rambla, hang a left and you are lost in the Gothic Quarter. We spent an entire day wandering around there. The whole area is fascinating. Going the other direction from the hotel, you’re right next to L’Eixample where about a 10 minute walk will take you to the Casa Batllo, La Predera, and shopping. You can probably take a bus/tram to the Sagrada Familia, but we walked (you see more that way!) and it took about a ½ hour if I remember correctly. Bascially, it’s at a GREAT location!
Staff: from the minute we checked in they were fantastic. The girl that checked us in was so friendly and really made us feel welcome. Check in was fast and efficient, and we were able to check in early to our room. Each night we wanted to try a different restaurant and the staff at the front desk was able to get us a reservation every time. They made us feel like any request was no problem at all.
Rooms: Very modern and sleek. I loved the hardwood floor and the modern headboards. Free WiFi in the room is great, and the bed was super comfortable. The bathroom was modern as well, and had cute amenity kits, along with bathrobes and slippers. The room was always clean and perfectly made. The only con I would say is that the walls are pretty thin. You can hear the doors closing from other rooms, and the shower running from next door. Wasn't a problem for us, but if you're a light sleeper, that *might* be a problem. Our room was also pretty narrow, but most European rooms are on the smaller side. The layout was a little odd, but the building is old so it fits the original florrplan I guess. Kinda cool, actually, instead of a typical cookie-cutter room. Besides, you shouldn’t be spending all your time in your room anyway!
Be sure to go around to the cafe Zurich, order a Cafe con Leche, and sit on the sidewalk with the locals and soak up Barcelona.
The rates here might be a little more than others, but trust me – it’s worth every euro! You’re getting what you pay for. The location can’t be beat, the rooms are fabulous, and the staff friendly. Perfect combination!
